Things that go bump in the night

NervousWho: Joy and open
Where: Out by the gate
When: Early
Joy hadn't been able to sleep much. The house was too loud. Even after draining that bottle of wine, she wasn't out enough to ingore the thumps, creaks, and wails of the house, not to mention that damn squeaky gate! Jesus, haven't these retards ever heard of WD-40? Throwing off the covers, she got up and wriggled into the dress she'd been provided, pulled her hair back into a ponytail, and, trying not to wake Sarah up, snuck out into the hallway.
Ghost House?
Submitted by drifting on Wed, 03/12/2008 - 16:37.Who: Nic and open to Ben, Dan, Gavin, Janie, Joy, Ren, Sally, Sarah, Zhen
Where: The Spooky House, Living Room and Parlor
When: Morning
There was nothing quite as creepy as waking up somewhere else. Nic knew where he'd gone to bed and the floor had been hard beneath him, even with the sleeping bag. Dan had been close by, always within reach. Now he was on a couch, that much he knew without opening his eyes. He could feel the cushions beneath him, one side walled and padded. His arm hung off the side, fingertips brushing the floor. His hand was numb, fingertips tingling, and as he pulled it back up onto the couch, blood rushed back into it. "Where are we?" he asked, opening his eyes. He didn't feel drugged, but that didn't mean a thing. He'd become such a light sleeper that moving him would have been impossible otherwise. "Shit," he said softly as he sat up. Any moment bats might fly through the room, or a wolf might howl out the window. This looked like a haunted house if he'd ever seen one, certainly not the campsite in which he expected to wake up.
An Owie Surprise

WickedWho: Joy
Where: Janie and Gavin's Love Boat
When: Sunset
For once, Joy had been working hard. She hadn't been doing anything for the campsite, of course. She'd been plotting and lying in wait. She had a little present for her dear sister and her boy toy.
She had gotten up early, finding a bucket that someone had left out. Through the course of the day, she'd been collecting the ingredients for her little surprise- rabbit and fish guts and bones, rocks, some broken glass- and had spent the afternoon waiting in the bushes for Janie and Gavin to leave.
Her waiting had finally paid off. They'd finally left a little before the sun had started going down. As soon as they were out of sight, Joy went into action. She didn't know how long they'd be gone, but fortunately this wouldn't take long. She snuck up to the boat and dumped the contents into the bottom. Once the sun went down, they wouldn't be able to see what she'd left them. Especially Janie. Blind bitch wouldn't know what hit her. Satisfied, she quickly got out before they came back. She'd wanted to leave a little love note or stick around and watch the fun, but she didn't want to be away from camp at night. Between the wolves howling and people disappearing in the night, she wanted to be near other people. Just in case.

DeviousWho: Joy and Janie, and later Gavin
When: Sundown
Where: The lake, at Gavin and Janie's boat
Joy was bored. She hadn't had a nibble all day. If it hadn't been for the bath she'd taken earlier, it would've been a total loss. She'd decided to take the gear and move a little bit further along the lake and try one more time to catch something before it got too dark.
A Different Kind of Camping
Submitted by sarah_tanner on Mon, 02/25/2008 - 17:55.Who: Sarah and Open
When: Mid-afternoon
Where: Stream in the woods
Sarah took Dan's advice and used the stream in the woods to clean herself up. It was a good ten minute walk, really, but she didn't mind it. It gave her time to think, refocus, and get away from everyone else for a few moments of privacy. And at least she could get the mucky feeling off of her skin before working on the shelters again with the others.

Submitted by sleep_it_off on Fri, 02/22/2008 - 14:13.Who: Joy and open, especially to Blair
When: Early morning
Where: Stuck in the middle with you
The first thing Joy was aware of was that she was a little cold. The second thing was that she had somehow been asleep standing up, supported by something. The third thing was that she seemed restrained somehow. She opened her eyes. The last thing she remembered was dozing off in some corner, and now... What. The. Fuck.

WorkingWho: Anyone who wants to get a reaction in.
When: Morning.
Where: Chapel.
A lot of people were milling about, in shock and in need of hand-holding perhaps. After working out a tentative plan with Jason, Lina had rooted around in a closet until she found a pen and paper, and started scribbling out groups. Once she had things as good as she felt she'd get them, she stood up in front of the alter, put her fingers in her mouth, and whistled. Loudly.
"Listen up!" she ordered loudly in a clear, confident voice. "A lot of people have already taken some initiative and gotten to work, and that's great. For the rest of you, I know a lot of you guys are in shock, but we can't assume this is going to get better. The sun is up now, and the fire will burn itself out before long, and we need to prepare ourselves for what could be ahead. I'm assigning everyone into a work group, and you'll be expected to do your job, or give me a damn good reason why you can't - and then we'll find something else helpful for you to be doing."
There'd always be someone who didn't want to play nice, right? "Okay, here's where we're at! Andre, Zania, Bob, Nic, Dan, Ben, and Sarah are working on building shelters! Torlin has taken charge of vegetation gathering - berries or whatever you can find - and Artemis, Zhen, Davis, and Tisi are helping her out! Working with snares and traps for small game - that's Cortez, Aamir, Caél, and Laila! There are three fishing poles and lures - that's going to Vivian, Gwil, and Hannah!" Hey, the girl didn't need her eyes to hold a fishing pole. Someone could bait her hook for her, and if she got mouthy, they could just use one of Hannah's eyeballs. They were probably pretty enticing to a fish, and hey, Hannah wasn't using them anyway. She certainly went out of her way to make sure everyone knew that.
"Firewood gathering! Drew, Rin, D, Matt, and Ren. What you find, stack in piles at the side of the chapel! Millie and Kaori are handing out tents and deciding who is sleeping where, and Millie's also helping Dave with anything medical. Joy, Blair, Calvin - I want you guys sorting through everything that might be useful. That's here, the shed, and the boathouse - take anything that we might need back here and sort through it to be dealt with later. Sally, Twitch, Kaylin, Emma? There are canteens, and a sink in the back bathroom." Yes, a small bathroom with only a sink and a toilet. Lina was shocked to find it was actually working. "Each of you take two canteens, fill them, and make rounds to each group back and forth to make sure everyone stays hydrated! Kales and I are taking the bows and a couple four-wheelers deeper into the woods to look for deer. The ONLY people who have a right to not be doing anything are Janie, Gavin, Rebekah, Esmé, and Anna. Adam is going to stay behind to help watch after them or help if Dave, Millie, or Kaori need it. I want everyone meeting back here at sunset so we can touch base and see where we're at. Understood? Alright, let's go!"

when: about 10 minutes after the explosion
where: in the doorway of the chapel
Jason had checked on a couple of things before he'd actually headed for the chapel. He had his stupid list with him, but really, he was more concerned with checking to see if anyone had oh, gotten their ass blown up. So far, it didn't look that way, and he'd of course made sure that the most important people to him were okay. Emma, Katalina...Dave he'd seen outside tending to someone who was hurt.

ImpressedWho: Anna and open
Where: Between the house and the chapel
When: 6am
Anna had eventually gone to the chapel and had her name ticked off, but after that nobody seemed particularly bothered about her. She wasn't injured and everyone was too busy either organising stuff or being hurt to really pay any attention to the young girl. She wandered round the chapel for a bit, watching people, but that was boring after a while. And she wasn't much of an organiser, so in the end she'd found herself back outside and walking up to the house.

ScaredWho: Janie and Gavin and open to people outside!
When: shortly after 4
Where: 3rd floor straight down to the front porch
The alarm woke Gavin up with a violent jerk. He sat up before his eyes were open and looked around wildly. At first he didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Then the smell of smoke his his nostrils, sharp and acrid, and he could see that there was a very weird light pattern going on across the floor, in a fan from under the door. As he looked, the paper on the far wall cracked and peeled. Holy shi-- "Janie, up!" he near-shouted, half-tumbling out of the bed. "Fire!"
Janie had started coming awake at the alarm, but came more awake at Gavin's antics. "Wha...?" she started, though didn't get very far. Her senses picked up where her brain wasn't quite engaged yet, and she smelled the unmistakeable scent of smoke. Smoke? What? She fumbled over for her glasses, and wound up knocking them and her cards off of the nightstand onto the floor.
HOLY FUCK OUR FLOOR IS ON FIRE
Submitted by Cael on Sun, 02/10/2008 - 05:15.Who: Open to everyone on the fourth floor!
Where: Fourth floor
When: 4amish
Tonight was one of those nights where Caél was a prisoner to his insomnia. He had taken a handful of his sleeping pills early in the evening and it didn't even make him yawn. He hadn't been expecting to sleep at all. So, when 1am rolled around and he got inexhaustibly sleepy, he knew something was up. Curiosity clawed at his eyes, trying to keep them open, but whatever was pumping him full of serotonin won, hands down, and Caél fell asleep with a smile on his lips. He was happy to be drugged; it meant something interesting was going to happen.

Apatheticwho: janie and open for joy!
where: outside her room
when: noonish
Janie had started sleeping later. She could feel another downtime coming on, where she was going to shut down and stay shut for a while. She just didn't know what to do about it. she supposed she should warn Gavin. Yeah. She'd warn Gavin. Even if things were...really fucked up right now, she knew it was coming, so she could go tell him. He'd probably want an advanced notice, right? So he didn't just wonder where she was in a week and find her in her room? Something like that. Whatever.

CreativeWho: Joy
When: early morning
Where: Her room and outside Janie's room
Joy was not happy. She'd gone a good portion of the day without a drink and was in a nasty mood. She'd tried to get her mind off of things by watching the video feeds. Mainly of her. But even that didn't make her happy. She'd been with him. The hot little piece of candy she'd run into in the bar. Back when a girl could get a drink around here! She couldn't believe that that stupid little bitch could get something as yummy as him. After cleaning up the broken bottles that had ensued from her tantrum, she began to formulate a plan. One to teach that little brat a lesson, and let her know that she was being watched.
She'd managed to find the art supplies, finally. She grabbed a few crayons, tape, and some paper and hurried back to her room. Yes, this would work perfectly. Carefully, she drew a picture and then, deliberately writing like one of her kids, added a little message at the top. She held it up and admired her work. She smiled for the first time all night. Time to go all ninja.
She opened the door a crack and peeked out. No one was there. Awesome. She snuck out into the dark hallway, hoping not to arouse anyone who was sleeping. It wasn't long before she found herself in front of Janie's door. Quietly, she attached the little sign to the door, then stepped back to admire her work. True, it was crooked, the picture looked less like Janie and more like Charlie Brown in a wig and glasses, but the message was spelled right, she thought. "DADDY'S LITTLE FREEK" screamed out in bright red childlike lettering. Satisfied with her artwork, Joy smiled, took one last drag of her cigarette before grinding it out on the floor in front of the door, the snuck back to her room, her creative impulse subsiding.

Submitted by sleep_it_off on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 03:36.Ok, this isn't fucking funny. When I ran out of tequila in my room, I figured I'd just drank it all. Wouldn't be the first time. But then I go to the bar in the billiards room? Empty. Wine in the kitchen? Gone. Nowhere, nothing. Not so much as a little airline bottle of gin. I don't know who the asshat is who is hiding all the alcohol, but dammit, just cause you may not approve of it doesn't mean the rest of us can't have a little fun, ok?

Submitted by sleep_it_off on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 03:38.Hello, everyone, my name is Joy, I'm a single mother with four kids, don't worry, they're in good hands, and I just got here today. I've read the "welcome post" that someone put up... Jamie, was it? Well, I have to say I am just shocked at what is going on around here, I can see it's much more than I originally signed up for! Is there anything I can do to help? Or anything I can do just to keep myself safe? I'm on the fourth floor if anyone wants to pop in and say hi. Thanks so much everyone!
