My Cat Doesn't Like it Here
Submitted by sallyanndoll on Thu, 03/13/2008 - 19:32.Who: Sally and open!
Where: Spooky House, second floor
When: Midmorning
Whilst everyone else had been wandering in and out and discussing and arguing and whatever else they'd been doing when they all woke up that morning, Sally had slipped out of the room. There were two reasons for this - firstly that she really had no interest in getting into it all, secondly because she wanted to get changed as soon as she realised that there were other clothes available and - okay, three reasons, because Flossie took off like a shot the moment Sally stirred.
Long Time
Submitted by sallyanndoll on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 11:59.Who: Sally and Gavin
When: late morning
Where: chapel
Gavin had woken up to a heavily-sleeping Janie, a bottle of whiskey, a bottle of painkillers, and a pack of cigarettes. It was like Christmas morning on the pontoon boat. He'd taken two of the pills and washed them down with a shot of Makers that burned the whole way down. Then took a second to chuckle over the fact that they'd given him the perfect combination of shit to kill himself with. Cheery. Not that he was going to. He retucked everything but the cigarettes back under the blanket and whispered to Janie that he'd be back. The pontoon had run slightly aground during the night, right next to the boathouse itself, so climbing off of it was an easy enough thing to do. Moving around hurt, but the pills would drown that out soon enough, he felt sure.

Broken‘Early one morning just as the sun was rising’... It’s gone, it’s all gone. Everything. Burnt down, so much ash and dust everywhere. They didn’t help – they didn’t lift a finger. People could have died and they didn’t help us. But they knew, and they’ve been here – they left this. The experiment continues...

Getting the ball rolling.

WorkingWho: Anyone who wants to get a reaction in.
When: Morning.
Where: Chapel.
A lot of people were milling about, in shock and in need of hand-holding perhaps. After working out a tentative plan with Jason, Lina had rooted around in a closet until she found a pen and paper, and started scribbling out groups. Once she had things as good as she felt she'd get them, she stood up in front of the alter, put her fingers in her mouth, and whistled. Loudly.
"Listen up!" she ordered loudly in a clear, confident voice. "A lot of people have already taken some initiative and gotten to work, and that's great. For the rest of you, I know a lot of you guys are in shock, but we can't assume this is going to get better. The sun is up now, and the fire will burn itself out before long, and we need to prepare ourselves for what could be ahead. I'm assigning everyone into a work group, and you'll be expected to do your job, or give me a damn good reason why you can't - and then we'll find something else helpful for you to be doing."
There'd always be someone who didn't want to play nice, right? "Okay, here's where we're at! Andre, Zania, Bob, Nic, Dan, Ben, and Sarah are working on building shelters! Torlin has taken charge of vegetation gathering - berries or whatever you can find - and Artemis, Zhen, Davis, and Tisi are helping her out! Working with snares and traps for small game - that's Cortez, Aamir, Caél, and Laila! There are three fishing poles and lures - that's going to Vivian, Gwil, and Hannah!" Hey, the girl didn't need her eyes to hold a fishing pole. Someone could bait her hook for her, and if she got mouthy, they could just use one of Hannah's eyeballs. They were probably pretty enticing to a fish, and hey, Hannah wasn't using them anyway. She certainly went out of her way to make sure everyone knew that.
"Firewood gathering! Drew, Rin, D, Matt, and Ren. What you find, stack in piles at the side of the chapel! Millie and Kaori are handing out tents and deciding who is sleeping where, and Millie's also helping Dave with anything medical. Joy, Blair, Calvin - I want you guys sorting through everything that might be useful. That's here, the shed, and the boathouse - take anything that we might need back here and sort through it to be dealt with later. Sally, Twitch, Kaylin, Emma? There are canteens, and a sink in the back bathroom." Yes, a small bathroom with only a sink and a toilet. Lina was shocked to find it was actually working. "Each of you take two canteens, fill them, and make rounds to each group back and forth to make sure everyone stays hydrated! Kales and I are taking the bows and a couple four-wheelers deeper into the woods to look for deer. The ONLY people who have a right to not be doing anything are Janie, Gavin, Rebekah, Esmé, and Anna. Adam is going to stay behind to help watch after them or help if Dave, Millie, or Kaori need it. I want everyone meeting back here at sunset so we can touch base and see where we're at. Understood? Alright, let's go!"

ShockedWho: Sally
Where: Her room, outside her room
When: Midmorning
Sally hadn't risen early today, instead she'd slept in and woken feeling a little better for the rest. She pottered for a while, playing with Flossie, having a long shower, drying her hair and then dressing. She pushed the kitten back with her foot, stopping her from running out into the hallway. She didn't want Flossie getting out - not with the awful things that had been done to animals recently.

Overdue Meeting

When: 2 PM.
Where: The ballroom.
This felt a little weird. Lina had been to meetings and everything, and was never shy about voicing her opinions. But it still felt weird. She'd never been in charge of one before. Now she had called a meeting, and she was actually going to have to help direct it along. Well, this would be interesting.
At least it seemed like a lot of people had shown up. She hadn't done a headcount, but... maybe this would go okay. Lina waited a few minutes to make sure everyone who had intended on showing up had, and cleared her throat. "Okay, let's just get started." she said. "What I want out of this is for everyone to know who they're living with. Who their neighbors are, which people are on their floor, that kind of thing. I'd like for everyone to go around and introduce themselves, and say what floor they're on. After that we can talk about any concerns or questions anyone has."
I feel like a goddamn camp counselor. she thought, wanting to pull a face. She didn't. She just introduced herself like a good little authority figure, and had everyone else go around the room and do the same. She'd brought a list with her, and she made sure to mark off every person that introduced themselves. It'd be good to look at the people that didn't show up later.
Once everyone had introduced themselves... "Okay. Does anyone have anything they want to say or ask about any house issues?"
And, Finally, The Second Floor....
Submitted by sallyanndoll on Sat, 08/04/2007 - 14:28.Who: Morgan and open to 2nd floor residents
When: Ungodly early
Where: The 2nd floor... obviously
Morgan moaned and tried to drown out the noise with a pillow over her head as soon as the siren started. She felt like utter crap and there was no way she was willing to deal with this while she was trying to sleep. Once it quickly became apparent the siren wasn't going to stop on its own, she made every effort to leave her bed. Unfortunately, this resulted in Morgan upending herself in a tangle of bedsheets on the hardwood floor, which did not make her any happier.
Managing to free herself from the sheets, she crawled toward her bedroom door, arms feeling like jelly and, after two or three passes at the doorknob, managed to tumble into the foyer. The siren was louder outside her bedroom door, but Morgan had to fight every instinct just to curl up where she was and go back to sleep. Man, this sucked.
Offended Victims

Where: Outside, front steps
When: Mid-morning
And suddenly it was spring. After everything else, somehow Sally couldn't get up the energy to be surprised. She'd woken up, opened the curtains, been baffled for a few minutes, stared for a few more and then gone and laid in the bath for a couple of hours, contemplating, well, everything and nothing. When she got out she'd read and watched the latest update from the scientists and suddenly the weather outside was the least of her problems. Why ouldn't they just leave her alone, stop bringing her into this? Torlin's PM, when it appeared, hadn't helped matters either. She just didn't want to be involved. At all. And so it was that she'd left Flossie asleep on her bed and taken herself outside. not that she'd got very far. She'd ended up sitting on the steps outside the front door, leaning against the railings and jotting ideas down in her notebook whislt watching the birds chase each other overhead. It was strange how that small bit of peaceful play had calmed her.
Nic realized that he needed out. Outside, out of his head, out where he could stop himself from tracking down Stefan and hitting him. That and spring seemed to have sprung up over night, or that was how it looked from his bedroom window. He headed down and out the front door, still a bit shocked by the change in temperature. For a moment he just stood on the front steps, soaking up the sun. It felt good to get out, but it didn't diminish his mood entirely, which was unfortunate. Opening his eyes, he realized suddenly that he wasn't alone. "Hey, Sally," he said, looking down at her. He hadn't seen her in days.

When: Early evening - Late night
Zhen had run around like a chicken with her head cut off most of the day, and it seemed to have paid off. Everything was set up, or it seemed to be, and she had music playing in the darkened ball room, the dance lights going. So it was nice and dark, but not too dark to see by. Either way, she was pleased. She had masks set out in the dining room, for those who couldn't find a costume or needed a mask, and they had all turned out pretty well with Dan's help.
Kittens in the Greenhouse
Submitted by sallyanndoll on Tue, 03/20/2007 - 16:43.Who: Nicodemus and Sally
Where: Greenhouse
When: Mid-afternoon
It had been a long, almost lazy day. Nic found himself wandering around the house, looking for things he might have missed. He'd been heading towards Dan's room when he realized there was more to the attic than he'd previously noticed and the detour took him into a greenhouse. Once inside, he had yet to wander back out. There was something bizarre about seeing all the live flowers and greens when outside it was so damn cold. He knew how the greenhouse worked, but it still fascinated him. Generally, science did that for Nic; the more he understood, the more he wanted to know. Nic slowly made his way through the rows, quietly reading the names of the plants and wondering about their purpose.
"Flossie, stop it!" The woman's voice came from deep in the foliage, towards the back wall of the greenhouse, as a blonde head popped up for a moment, then disappeared, only to be followed by some agitated rustling sounds and a plaintive mew, before a tall, slender woman with now very messy hair appeared clutching a grey striped kitten which was desperately trying to get down. She held the cat up to her face. "No, you don't get to go destroying the greenery - it doesn't fight back," she told it, as if the kitten would understand every word.
