Five floors, five presents

Who: Stop asking so many questions
Where: First to fifth floor
When: Very, very late/early

Tasks like these were never easy; the result of long hours and careful planning, but they were always fun. And knowing what this one knew now, about the rooming situation around the house and the personal relationships that reflected it, now was the perfect time for some fun. It was early, too early for any of the morning exercisers or even the manic residents to be out prowling the hallways, which meant that final preparations could be tended to. There were, after all, some things that just couldn't be explained in the waking hours.

Surprise Me

Who: Nic and Dan
Where: Their Room
When: Evening
NSFW

Dan had spent most of the day alone. He'd gone on a scavenging mission throughout the house first thing (or, well, 'first thing' for Dan - which meant mid morning in real time) then returned to the room with his finds. He'd started out neatly enough - a single flight case open to get out some of his tools, working just out their cleared desk, alternating between wiring and sketching plans. Okay, so Kales was meant to be sending him things to work with, but Dan figured he'd put together his own ideas anyway. It couldn't hurt anything and he felt the need to be doing something.

Sometime around lunchtime, 'neatness' had gone out of the window and by that evening, Dan had near enough taken over the entire room. Most of his cases, containing all sorts of tools and implements, lengths of cabling and who-the-hell-knew-what-else were scattered around the room and Dan was sitting on the floor, indian-style, a pad of paper to his right, a few scraps of paper to his left, two coils of wire in front of him, which he was fiddling with the ends of, and a load of balled up paper rejects behind him. It was obvious that his usual concern with his appearance had been dropped today, as his hair was sticking up as though he'd run his hands through it every few minutes to try and get it back off his face until it stuck in a position where it would actually do that, and he had a look of utmost concentration on his face as he worked.

Private Journal Entry - APRIL 6, 2006

I met a new girl this morning. Blair. Absolutely clueless about what she's gotten herself into. How do I talk to these people? What do I tell them? Nothing seems to be appropriate. It seems like it would be wrong not to clue them in, but they really can't understand until they've experienced it for themselves. The hardest part is telling them there is no way out. That they're here for the long haul, unless the scientists themselves decide to remove them.

Catching up and a free meal

Who: Torlin and Nic
When: early evening
Where: kitchen

Nic was thinking that something different for dinner sounded good, something he hadn't had in a while. He finally decided on fajitas and, while he was trying to cook enough for him and Dan, he was probably cooking enough for four instead of two. That was fine. They could have leftovers. While the meat marinated, he set to grating the cheese, humming softly to himself. It'd been a fairly quiet day thus far and he was taking advantage of it.

Torlin had been emerging in only small increments, more content staying in Kaylin's room with her and the animals. And pretending the rest of the house and the whole world didn't exist. But a girl had to eat, and she'd ventured into the kitchen to get something quick and easy. The smell of food already cooking hit her before she went in, and she took a steadying breath to try and prepare herself for possible ... interaction. She was still feeling massively gunshy and withdrawn, and didn't think that would be letting up anytime soon. Tor walked in with her head down, quick steps taking her toward the fridge.

Security

Who: Dan and Zania
Where: Zania's room
When: Around noon

Dan stopped off in the kitchen to pick up biscuits on his way to see Zania - or, more like, he made a detour to the kitchen to pick up biscuits, since there was no real way of suggesting that the kitchen was anywhere on the way from his room to her's. But biscuits were necessary - and he'd found a selection pack as well. Bourbons and little pink wafer-y things and jammy dodgers, which were just the best. And then he headed up to Zania's room, knocking on her door and waiting.

Zania's mood had calmed down a bit from yesterday morning, but then not much could have been worse. She'd made some decisions for herself, gotten her hair braided, and was trying to decide how to reply to Ren about the piercings when Dan knocked on her door. Mentally, Zania reminded herself that Dan did not know about the cameras and not to speak on anything regarding them. "Hey," she said, opening the door for him to enter. "Thanks for coming. You brought biscuits!" she said happily. Apparently Dan knew just what to do to cheer her up.

Private Journal Entry - APRIL 6, 2006

Dorian's gone. They gave me camera access and now I can see that his room is empty. I've checked all the feeds and he's not in a single one of them. He's gone.

I don't really know how to take this. He was the only one who seemed willing to spend time with me. Now there's no one. Just me and a house full of people I don't really know, or people who don't want to know me. Or who know me, but don't like me. There's Dan, though. He still seems okay with me. I don't see him often, but maybe I'll see him today.

Private Messages - APRIL 6, 2006

PM to Lina

Just so you know, I received another note. This one says: It's silly to be depressed by it. One thinks of being alive in a box. One keeps forgetting to take into account that one is dead.

I don't expect you can do anything about it. I just thought you should know.

PM to Experiment B Participants

So, I now have camera access, and it's my understanding that you do too. Is this new for all of us? Or just new for me? Is there anything I should know besides to keep my mouth shut?

A Couple of Notes

Who: Zania
Where: Her room
When: Morning

Zania was not in the habit of checking her computer when she woke in the morning, even if a little red light was flashing on the monitor. Instead, she stepped out her door with intent to go down for breakfast. With her box in the way, that hindered her exit, giving her pause as she stopped to read the note left behind. "It's silly to be depressed by it. One thinks of being alive in a box. One keeps forgetting to take into account that one is dead." Rolling her eyes, she stepped back in and shut the door, note clutched in her hand, but box still outside. She'd have to dispose of it later.

Now, though, she was interested in seeing what might be on the computer. She'd expected her secret admirer to reply on the journals. Instead, Dan had. With a little smile, she replied to him, then moved on to the new note in her inbox. It was not often that she received messages from the scientists, and this one she read over three times before opening the new program on her computer. Her eyes widened slightly and she began to watch.

For Zania

In the early hours of the morning, someone has left the box which Zania had been sleeping in outside her door. Right outside - as in hard up against the door, can't leave the room without moving it or tripping over it. Also, pinned to the door is a note - and, again, the words of the note have been written on the side of the box, just below the last ones.

TIME UPDATE

DAY NINETY-SIX – APRIL 6, 2006

Weather Report: Storms continuing through-out the morning, finally stopping in the afternoon.

Events: It's a day of changes in the line-up for the housemates. Dorian, Leighton, Heidi, Takuya, Niko, and Florian have all been removed. Blair has been put in a room on the second floor, and Millie has been put in a room on the fourth. Surprisingly (or perhaps not, considering where we are), Millie was a member of the experiment before - as well as the house nurse. What's she doing back here?

Anyway. Blair has been added to Experiment B, which means her welcome note is a little different from the standard.
