Don't Look Behind You
Who: Zania
Where: Her Room
When: Sunset
Having fallen asleep at sunrise, Zania's "day" was rather short. The first thing she'd done was check the cameras, but the little girl she'd seen that morning was nowhere to be found. She wasn't the only one to see her, she found, as Stas had posted about her on the journals, a private post to those of them in Experiment B. If he hadn't done so, Zania would have continued to think she was alone, quietly going crazy. Now she just thought she was going crazy in mass with everyone else.
That did not make her feel any better.
Having ventured from her room only to make a run to the kitchen, Zania returned with soup and a kitchen knife-- one to eat, the other to defend herself with. She felt a bit silly, but she also felt a bit safer, and the safe part was all that really mattered. Having eaten her soup, she returned to the video feeds. The catch was becoming more and more obvious. Having watched, it was hard not to watch, but it made her more paranoid with each passing day. Today was no exception. In fact, it was the worst thus far.
There was someone in the house, but this time it wasn't a little girl. Zania watched in terror as a man in a horse mask moved throughout the house, entering the room of one of her house-mates. She didn't know the girl, but Zania spoke up anyways, grabbing both sides of the monitor as she did so. "Behind you," she said. "Look behind you!" But Rebekah did nothing and was left unharmed. That might have been more of a relief if the horse-headed man didn't crawl into a secret compartment in her bathroom cupboard. Immediately Zania spun to check her own bathroom, just in case the man was emerging there. Finding herself alone, she began to search the feeds.
And then she found him, not long after, standing in someone's closet. Her eyes moved over the clothes, fearful that it might be her own, but she was lucky. It was someone else's room, someone that was as vulnerable as they could possibly be. Zania's hands shook as she watched the horse-headed man step into the bathroom, scared of what he might do. And then she screamed.
Her hands flew to her mouth, stifling the sound, as if the man might hear her and come for her next. It was just a mask, a frozen expression, but Zania was sure it had been more than that. As the man crawled into another cupboard, Zania searched the feeds again, trying to find him, but he was nowhere to be found. Her room no longer seemed safe, even with the bar over the door. There were other ways in, ways she hadn't prepared for. Knife in hand, Zania settled in for another sleepless night.
