Things that go bump in the night

Mood:
Nervous

Who: Joy and open
Where: Out by the gate
When: Early

Joy hadn't been able to sleep much. The house was too loud. Even after draining that bottle of wine, she wasn't out enough to ingore the thumps, creaks, and wails of the house, not to mention that damn squeaky gate! Jesus, haven't these retards ever heard of WD-40? Throwing off the covers, she got up and wriggled into the dress she'd been provided, pulled her hair back into a ponytail, and, trying not to wake Sarah up, snuck out into the hallway.

Sneaking was easier said than done around here, though. Everything made noise. The floor, the stairs, the walls... was someone following her? She turned around, trying to catch sight of who it was. "Janie?" she whispered. "Is that you, freak?" Seeing no one there, she snuck into the study. A couple of new notes had been pinned to the wall with one of those "letter openers" that looked a lot more like daggers. Giving the notes a quick glance, she picked up the other letter opener from the desk, just in case. You never knew what was going to jump out at you in a place like this. Better to be safe than sorry.

Heading outside, she made her way to the gate. If I can get it shut, maybe that'll fix it for now. She ducked her head instinctively from the wind and mist, and was just making it to the gate when the creaking just stopped. "T'fuck?" she whispered. A chill ran up Joy's spine. There was something Not Right here. She brought the letter opener up like a weapon, just in case.
