Lullaby really didn't want to be here. In fact, the longer she was in the Inbetween, the more she was absolutely fucking convinced she was not going to be spending any time here unless absolutely necessary. Fuuuuck no. But, she had to look around, at the very least, there was that weird figure behind her in the mirror, and it was..there was badness. She had hold of the end of the kite string she'd taped to the back of her mirror--a failsafe because she didn't trust herself not to get lost. Lost was bad. Dean would probably kill her if she did that. So...she was taking precautions.

As she walked, she tried not to look into the windows that much, tried to keep things sort of tunnel-vision-like. One glimpse of a huge guy coming out of a shower was more than enough for her, thank you very much. She was definitely learning that the mirrors were all over though. Some of the views were clearly not from around here. ...there was a distinct lack of palm trees in the U.P. She thought she heard something(quite possibly just from one of the mirrors, really)--to go with the awesome visual 'I'm being stalked' sort of feeling she'd had going on since entering. "...hello?" she called, though she never knew quite how far her voice carried.

Spending the past couple days in a blind fog of white noise and dark shapes Jordan felt more like she was stuck in a Michael Keaton movie than real life (though the Nathan Fillion sequel was much better). She woke on Saturday morning fully expecting to be in the same fog but to her suprise things were much clearer than they'd been. Each day it had gotten better, but today she at least could make out what things were behind the veil of static, like trying to watch scrambled porn without the flickering.

Rather than walking, Hannah drove over to Chance's house. It seemed more "normal" that way, and really, the old Bronco needed to stretch his legs. Er, tires. So she chugged up to a stop in front of the house with the address Chance had given her not too long after sunset and hopped out, slamming the door shut behind her and heading around the front towards the house.

Hannah was excited, really. There wasn't much that got her excited these days-- well, okay, maybe there was; but it wasn't things like meeting people, it was more things like killing people, finding a cool new weapon, or seeing something really good in a mirror somewhere-- but she was definitely excited to see Chance "in the flesh" and to make sure she hadn't been dreaming. She was curious what he'd say or ask, what all he knew and how well he knew how to do what he did know, and what exactly happened to him that someone turned him into a Fade. It was, apparently, fairly "dark" magic... and most people didn't practice that without a damn good reason.

She headed up the lawn towards the front door. Chance had just better be home.

So apparently the staring reflections didn't stop her from going into the In Between, but this time Hannah was cautious. She kept careful track of her turns, didn't go outside of the semi-familiar territory she'd explored during her last visit to this cursed little town, and she kept her senses alert for that watched feeling that said those spirit-whatever-things were nearby and closing in.

But at the same time, she really, really needed a trip inside. It'd been a couple days now-- and that brief poking her head into the mirror in the antique store didn't count, dammit-- and she was starting to feel twitchy. Just a little while, maybe an hour, two at most. That'd be it, then she'd come out and get back to the Bronco and get some sleep. For now, though, she was walking and looking for a good mirror to sit herself down in front of and just... watch. Preferably someone from the town, maybe someone new....

The Consequences of Hitting People

Herbert-Beatup

Who: Chance and Herbert
Where: MHSH, the hall then the office

He wasn't quite sure how he managed to get into a fight after lunch. Or why. All Chance remembered was he'd woken up in a foul mood, Jordan wasn't in school and not answering her phone, and he felt a bit more on edge than usual. And at the moment, Chance was so filled with rage that he couldn't even recall what the jock douchebag had even said as Chance was walking by, only that it had to do with Jordan and the word 'freak' and that's all it had really taken for him to snap. All he knew now was that he was bending over said douchebag, pummeling his fist into the guy's face. His own nose was bleeding, and his ribs hurt, but he wasn't really focused on any of that other than wondering if he'd get away with bashing the guy's head into the floor. Probably not, but just the thought fueled his adrenaline. A lot of kids around them were encouraging the fight, something Chance was used to when punches first got thrown. He couldn't really hear what they were saying. All the noise was like one big siren in his ears.

"Mother fucking asshole," Chance grounded out, emphasizing each word with another punch to the guy's nose. It was therapeutic in a way and maybe he'd stop in a minute. Unless a teacher came by and pulled him off. Until then, he was just fine where he was.

Who: Chance and Dean

Where: Outside

There was the occasional wondering as to why Chance was at school at all. He'd already ditched three classes, and was planning on ditching on his fourth when he came out of hiding during lunch. He didn't want to really admit that he'd been avoiding Jordan and Kaysen, but he was. He didn't think he could deal with either of them given his mood, and knowing he still had to go to Devon's funeral shortly after school. Given how heavy everything felt at the moment, he was pretty damn sure he couldn't handle the mundane atmosphere of class and pretend he actually gave a shit about chemistry or calculus. He was actually kind of wishing he had some weed, even though he hadn't touched the stuff since last winter. The thought kind of made him itchy and restless and he shoved his hand through his hair, moving through the halls quickly to try to get to his destination without incident. Kids were starting to get up and move now that lunch was over and once he was outside of the school, he found the nearest, vacant corner just outside the doors, flung his book bag down and pulled out a dark sharpie marker. Sitting down against the wall, knees drawn up, he spent a couple seconds absently coloring in his nails with the black ink before he got bored and turned the marker against the side of the school building where he began to write, brows drawn together in concentration as he darkened in each, large letter. It didn't occur to him, or he just didn't care, that he was defacing school property. It wouldn't have been the first time and he was pretty sure it wouldn't be the last. No one was bound to catch him out there anyway and if they did? Well, they could be happy he was fucking up the school instead of their car.

When: Early afternoon

It was another day without school, for which Chance was thankful. He wasn't sure he'd have gone even if school had been back in session. He wasn't having a particularly good morning, given he hadn't slept much the night before. He was too busy trying to deal with the fact that Devon had died. And that Kaysen had nearly probably killed herself trying to save his life. He was maybe handling everything better than he could have been. Anger and pain still wanted to surface. He still wanted to hit things and break things and find someone to blame for everything, but he couldn't. After his mom left for work, he sat out on the porch, watching a few of his neighbors cleaning up their yards. Everything felt quiet and still now, without a barrage of destruction to report on the news this morning. Chance wondered if maybe the vampires had moved on. Maybe. He sat on one of the porch chairs, staring ahead, his mind shifting back to Kaysen. It was easier to think about her than anything else. She wanted to know about him. And he wanted to tell her, yet at the same time, now he was afraid too. He didn't want her to be scared of him. That was his worst fear, that she would look at him like he was a monster, or something to be frightened of. Sighing, Chance leaned forward and ran his hands through his hair. After a moment's hesitation, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and forced himself to punch in her number. He'd at least ask her how she was feeling, just to hear her voice. Maybe if she was feeling better, he could convince her to come over. Or to allow him to come see her. Hearing her voice wouldn't be enough. He wanted to see her, hug her and just be with her, as cheesy as it was in his mind. She'd help him maintain sanity, at least for a little while.

It'd taken him some time to get out the funk he was in since his argument with Kaysen the other day. He'd driven by her house a couple times, just to check to make sure she was okay. Of course, he couldn't actually see into her bedroom, but he thought he saw her curtains move a few times. He had every intention of going over to her house at some point that day to talk to her. He didn't feel he needed to apologize, but not talking to her was driving him insane.

When the vehicle stopped and Kaysen got out, and followed Chance into his house, she was decidedly nervous. She couldn't help it really, it was just there. There, and so insanely not going away. However, it was a pretty good kind of nervous. Sure, she had to talk to him about the kinda thing that Charlotte and she were thinking on doing, but she could wait to get into serious 'so in case the world ends' talks, right? Right. Instead, her mind was distinctly Elsewhere. Like, totally on chance, and wondering what might happen if they had his house to themselves. She found that because she was feeling that bit of nervous, she was having trouble coming up with something to say, but she attempted to. "When's your mom get home, anyways?" she asked. "Did you tell her um. About. Er. Stuff?" she asked.

"My mom?" He dumped his bag by the front door and shut it after Kaysen entered. Turning toward her, he reached down to pull off his shoes, letting them fall where they may. "Usually she gets home around seven. But she's been staying the night over at her boyfriend's house lately." He tried his best not to make a face, but it was clear he wasn't overly happy with it. "That's why I couldn't hang out last night... she had him over for dinner so I could meet him 'properly'." And then he did scowl. Briefly. "I've told her a little. I mean, we don't really... talk. Much. About anything." Mostly yelling and screaming, really. "I'm afraid if I tell her about you, she'll want you over for dinner too, or something. Not that that's bad. But my mom's... she's not really..." Sane? "I don't know."

Kaysen really wasn't sure how things worked. She wasn't. She didn't know how everyone else did their business. How people dated. Because, well, she'd gone and totally agreed to go out with Chance, and now she sorta...didn't know what came next. She wasn't even wearing her hoodie today, she was just kind of thereish. There, ignoring most of the rumors spreading around, though she did notice there was almost a shocking lack of ones involving her and chance. People were still going on about Lullaby and her funeral, and how badly Chrissy was taking it, and how that Dean kid was like, totally crazy or something, and there were a few others, but she wasn't paying that much attention. She was kinda sorta still floating in weird happy land, and she wasn't looking to have a comedown.

Even if the news of the badness in Munising was filtering through to some degree, and it did in fact have her freaked on some real levels...it was kinda sorta...distant. Like it wasn't effecting her yet. Not quite, anyways. Or not now. That didn't mean she hadn't lost sleep the night before, even after Thom had texted her again. Which she was half realizing he'd started taking to doing every night. Last night, she'd even kinda been waiting for it. And then he had. So, she'd been up late, and had considered writing in her diary, but had stared at the blank page for ages before she'd shut it. It was like she couldn't even put it into words right now.

Someone loved her. He'd said it. He hadn't even taken it back, he'd totally repeated himself and everything. It was...something, alright. Now, she was looking around for him in a vague sort of way that was an attempt to not look like she was looking for someone. It occurred to her that she had no idea where he spent his time at lunch time, and she could text him to ask, but she kinda wanted to find him on her own.

What did you say?

It was with strange anxiousness that Chance waited for Kaysen after school. He'd driven purposely that day because they had made plans for her to come over, and he really didn't know if she was going to go home first, or just go straight home with him. He supposed he could have asked her earlier, but, well, he was really sort of caught up in the stupid excitement that they would get to hang out alone. Granted, he had spent some of the day with Sunday, but they'd been at the carnival, around other people. Not to mention there was still the funeral, and death hanging like a rainy black rain cloud over them. That wasn't to say everything was perfect now - that there was sunshine and rainbows. Hell no. But he wanted normalcy. He wanted to just hang out, watch movies, or do something, anything, to get his mind off of things. And he wanted that with her. He shifted from foot to foot, trying not to be too impatient as people filed out of the school, heading off into every possible direction. He barely saw any of them, his gaze focused soley on finding Kaysen.

Kaysen was a little excited too. School today again had been a somber affair mostly, and she was kind of twitchy over it a little. So she was looking forward to seeing Chance, and hanging out and being normal for a while. She was thinking of her flowers again when she spotted him, and she veered in her path to walk up. "Hi." she said. She was a little wary, feeling exposed since, well. Everyone was still around them n stuff, but still. Kaysen was aware that one day, she was going to have to get over that. Maybe. So she'd do it in little bits. Or something. Whatever.

Thom had turned up at school early today and was hanging round outside, waiting. Specifically waiting for Chance, actually. Although he'd never done that before, he figured he really should talk to the guy - they had a few things to discuss, after all. And considering Thom's new outlook on life and where his priorities were definitely lying, now seemed as good a time as any. And so he waited.

With the weather no doubt growing closer and closer to turning completely shitty, Chance had decided to take advantage of the end of summer and ride his skateboard to school again. With no one to have to pick up, he didn't see much of a point in driving, and really, he'd been enjoying his skateboard a hell of a lot more now than over the past couple of weeks. Reaching the front of the school, he hopped over the curb, stepped off and popped the board up into his hand with his foot. Lifting it, he started toward the doors when he spotted Harkin outside. He instantly became wary, but figured it could be worse. It could be Isaac standing there. "Hey man," he greeted simply, hoping that would be enough and he could just walk on by and go inside.

It had taken awhile, but by the time Chance stopped his jeep in front of Kaysen's house, he was pretty satisfied with the morning. He knew she was probably still grounded, so he wasn't really expecting to see her. Especially not this early. In fact, being that it was Sunday, Kaysen was probably still sleeping. Opening the door, he slid out of the jeep and grabbed the bag and flowers. He knew it was cheesy. And Kaysen had never really come across as a 'girly' kind of girl, but he was kinda hoping she'd like the gesture.
