Setting up a system.

12 - biting lip

Who: Charlotte, Dean, Herbert, Joshua, Isaac, Peyton, Sammy, Stacey, and Thom.
When: Lunchtime.
Where: Side lawn at school.

Charlotte would have felt much better about this if Kaysen was there. She hadn't been nervous about this until she woke up this morning and realized she had no freaking idea what she was doing. Or maybe everyone would think she was crazy, or that it was a waste of time. They won't. she kept telling herself. If they agreed to show up in the first place, they must think it's a good idea. She just kept telling herself that.

A Birthday Party

Brian-Sweet-HA

Who: Mya, Brian, Marlowe, and OPEN =D
When: 3:45 – 8:00
Where: Mya’s Diner

Mya was bustling around, the last of the customers had just left and she was helping by cleaning off the last of the two tables and bringing the dishes into the back. “Can someone make sure to grab the cake from the fridge and get it into my office before Brian gets here?” She asked, as she slipped into the back by to drop off the dishes. “And get the party platters on the counter!” The end of the shift had been a little busier than expected but she had a good team (and more than normal as a few extra employees stopped in to help set up for Brian- some without having to be asked). Mya tucked a bit of loose hair behind her ear and quickly got out of the way of the platters of food that were zipping by her.

There were streamers put up around the counter and balloons along the booths, the cake was hidden until later but the platters of hour’d’ouvres were out. There were crackers and cheese, chips and dip, tortilla rolls with cream cheese and turkey, fruit with a marshmallow dip, mini cucumber and avocado sandwiches, bruchetta strips and a bacon, cheese and artichoke dip with toast points. Mya was good at cooking meals, but she was even better at snack food and since there wouldn’t be an actual meal served there were lots of snacks.

Street Fight!

green jacket smoking sneer

Who: Doc, Kurt, Liadan, Jovie, Dessicant, Seven, Eben, and Evan
Where: Washington Street
When: night

This had officially gone on too long. In Doc's mind, it had been too far with the first death, but he knew that he'd been powerless to stop it at the time. He'd been trapped in the basement of his home, an intangible victim of his own power and the decisions he'd made for Eva's sake. There had been no choice for those first few days but to sit and wait, to listen to Teddybear's status reports and wonder if the twins would get in over their heads. Finally, they had... People were dying and those that were alive were trapped in their fear, resigned to hiding until the plague that had come to town forced them out. But that wouldn't be the case. It was time to do what he'd made a life out of, to cleanse this place the only way he knew how.

Suitably fire-ish, but lacking in brimstone.

Marlowe

Who: Marlowe, Domino, Torziel, and a little bit of Brian
Where: Brian's house
When: Mid-morning

There were two reasons Torziel was not in Brian's bedroom that night. First, that big, obnoxious cougar-boy. Second, the fact that Brian was backlashing and the demon-cat hadn't wanted to be in the same bed as a feverish, very wet willworker.

So, instead, he was out on the couch. With Marlowe. At least she was suitably fire-ish, even if she was lacking in brimstone. He'd settled across her stomach sometime during the night, and had been perfectly content to sleep there until she woke up or someone moved him.

Marlowe had a rough start falling a sleep, but once she was able to reach that stage, the elemental seemed to sleep peacefully for the few hours she was able to. As the day moved into the later hours of morning, Marlowe started stirring. The feeling of a slight weight on her stomach, which wasn't in any way comfortable due to her injuries, had the red head's eyes fluttering open to slits, and then snapping open when she was able to focus on the creature curled up on her belly. A cat? "Brian." Instinct had her calling out hoarsely for him while trying to nudge the damned thing off her. Surely the thing hadn't been laying on her stomach for any stretch of time, he had to have just jumped up and curled up there a short minute or so ago, cause she wasn't having any reaction to the thing yet, that didn't mean the stuffiness, and blotching of her skin was going to start real soon.

Torziel opened one golden eye at the prodding, but one of the nice things about being a very large-sized housecat was that he was difficult to move if he didn't want to move. All he did was shifted a little, stretch a little without actually getting up or moving much, and then settle down again with his big, furry paws across Marlowe's chest. The look he gave her read fairly clearly: I'm not going anywhere, girlie, so best be getting used to it.

Who: Geo, Sammy, Melia, Caleb, Mathias, Ash, and Linn
Where: Out near the beach
When: Night

Mathias was strolling, actually strolling, a slight smile on his face, looking completely relaxed. He was also apparently alone, just him, walking along one of the streets near to the edge of the lake. It was a nice night for a stroll, after all - or, well, it would be if the town wasn't, say, overrun with blood thirsty, marauding vampires. But why let a little fact like that spoil one's evening.

Awkward shelter in the basement

blueish close up worried

Who: Kaysen, Thom, Isaac, and Peyton
When: night!
Where: Thom's basement

As promised, Isaac had shown up at the Harkin house an hour before sundown, with his sister and Peyton in tow. The St. James parents hadn't much liked the idea at first, not wanting their kids to be absent all night with everything going on, but Isaac had managed to convince them that this was the best plan. The Harkins had a finished basement, there was safety in numbers, and Ashbelle had regular police patrols watching the place (which was something he'd just made up off the top of his head, but sounded pretty good at the time). Eventually they'd relented, and he'd made the calls, got some stuff packed, and jaunted off to pick up Peyton.

He opened the front door and let the three of them in, walking in with the familiarity that he always had, and started to lead the way toward the basement, adjusting the backpack on his shoulder. It was stuffed mostly full of air mattress, and the pump thing was in one of his hands, clunking lightly against the door as he opened it and started down the stairs. Stubborn bastard better be sleeping, he thought to himself, the possibility keeping him from hollering out a greeting as per usual.

oz never look back

who: everyone at the osbourne household
where: oz's house
when: around midnight(predawn)

Things were relatively quiet, until around midnight. The night had been mostly undisturbed as far out as they were, though Oz had a police scanner in the kitchen quietly broadcasting. That told them that the vampires hadn't moved on from town, like they had the others. Fires were breaking out, people were dying, stores were looted, it was mayhem in town.

Just not out there. Not until it was interrupted by the first strike of lightning that crashed down from the sky all on it's own, to hit a figure that was moving in from the treeline. That was when the badness started.

Rescue!

with gun

Who: In various groupings: billy dean joshua lullaby maddie oz and sophie
Where: All over the damn place!
When: After dark

The world was swimming as Billy drove up the road to Oz' house. It was a damned good job that there was no other traffic and that the place wasn't far, because he was swerving all over the place. His head was throbbing, the world wouldn't keep still, and he only had one hand that wanted to help with the whole 'working' thing. He clipped the corner as he pulled the battered truck into the gravel driveway of his friend's house and swerved to a stop, pushing down far too hard on the brake. He felt the pain lance through him as he jerked forward, then back and for a moment he lost his breath. This was the part where he got out of the car, he knew. But he didn't want to move. He was tired and his head was spinning. He should just sit here for a while. Maybe sleep for a bit.

The Rest of The End

Who: Joshua, open to anyone coming to Lullaby's funeral
When: 4 pm onward
Where: funeral home

Sean and Joshua were on time to the wake. Hell, they were even a little bit early. He felt removed from his body as they walked up to the front doors of the neat-looking building. Like he was watching himself from somewhere else as he opened the door and didn't take his sunglasses off as he went inside. There was a little sign with a plaque on it that said "Draven" and an arrow. He walked to that side of the building on numb legs, and signed the little guest book on a table in front of the room with numb fingers. He could hear people inside, talking softly, some crying. Joshua's heart started to beat hard, and his palms got clammy. He felt his stomach cramp up as he stepped into the room. His eyes moved immediately to the open casket on the far side of the room, and then just as quickly away. He didn't go any further than that, mind kicking up a panicky mantra of I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't I can't I can't --

Who: Fallon, Geo, Sammy, Jericho
When: After school, Thursday, August 30
Where: Jericho's Office

Throughout the morning and throughout lunch Sammy had been shooting dark looks at his brother as he complained about having to watch him for the day. Now, on the front porch of the psychiatrist's office where Geo worked, he was just standing quietly, blinking sleepily at his brother's back without any sign of his earlier aggravation. His head felt muzzy as if it were filled with cobwebs and he leaned forward slightly, flopping against Geo's back as if to tell his brother to get on with it and open the door or whatever it was he was supposed to do first when he got here.

Getting The Fuck Out

stupid huh face

Who: Chance, Dorian, Kaysen, Isaac, Thom, Leija, Kurt, Natalya
When: earlyish morning
Where: In-Between, Nevermore's bathroom

It was exactly six o'clock when Chance arrived at Nevermore. He was wide awake this time, having slept most of the day before and regained most of his strength. He'd left a note for his mother, telling her he went into school early, though he knew she wouldn't believe it. Not that he cared much, but he didn't want her thinking he'd gone missing like the others if she came into check on him. Chance parked outside of Nevermore, relieved to see a light on inside, which meant Dorian was already there. Licking his lips, Chance grabbed the small bag holding several spools of string and got out of the jeep. He didn't care how long it would take today. He'd walk all day if that's what it took. He wasn't coming back without Kaysen, he was damn sure of that. Chance reached out, relieved to find the door unlocked for him. Stepping inside, he shut the door behind him and locked it. Even if it was six am, he was pretty sure he and Dorian wouldn't want someone walking by to mistake the place for being open. "Dorian? I'm ready..."

Dorian got there just before Chance, long enough to put himself on a pot of coffee in the back room. He'd had trouble sleeping, worry about what they would do if this didn't work. He really didn't want to tell Delilah that he'd done his best to find the kids, but it just hadn't worked. And even worse, he didn't want to tell Caleb. His brother must be climbing the walls at this point, but Dorian was doing all he could do. Reporting in at this point would only make Caleb more frantic, knowing that Leija was lost somewhere, possibly hurt, possibly dead. No, Dorian couldn't go see him till he knew Leija was safe. "Back here," Dorian called out, meeting Chance halfway to the mirror. It would have been nice if he had something more convenient than the bathroom mirror, but it worked. "Ready when you are," he said, taking a sip of his coffee. There really was nothing for him to do but be there as an observer. If this was a rescue mission, he was nothing but the facilitator.

Reasons for the No Tresspassing Signs--Caving Grounds

who: Natalya, Kurt, Thom, Leija, Isaac & Kaysen
where: twisty tunnel of doom
when: afternoon

Thom had been momentarily worried when the suggestion of splitting up into groups had been made and he'd held fast to Leija's hand while standing as close as he could to Isaac and Kaysen - at least until the moment he realised that someone was going to have to speak up about groupings and then he'd just jumped in as though it had just occurred that he, Leija, Isaac and Kaysen would be a group - though they'd eventually ended up with the guy Kurt and Natalya as well, which he was fine with. Their's seemed to be the biggest group, but there was no way he was going anywhere without Kaysen, Leija or Isaac - they came as a package deal, even if Thom was the only one who would be aware of that.

who: September, Oz, Maddie, Lullaby, Dean & Joshua
where: tunnel numero uno
when: afternoon

Madigan was up ahead, not that anyone else knew that. Or, not by sight anyhow, considering the twins had been kind enough to play interpreter for her to say she was going to go ahead, and people could follow if she called to them that there weren't any disasters waiting to happen or anything. Oz was bringing up the rear, in his handy dandy wolf form, and the group seemed to have grown exponentially since yesterday. Well, at least they'd split up so if disaster happened, it wouldn't be happening to half the bloody town.

She was fairly sure someone might want to pop her one for that sentiment, but it was true. Better only a few people than everyone. Let no one say Maddie was overly given to sentimentality. As she walked further along, the first thing she noticed was that she wasn't actually having problems with the whole not being able to carry a light things. That was because the cave was giving off sparkly light of it's damn own. As she walked further up the tunnel, the walls smoothing out like a bloody concrete tunnel, only prettier, she was hearing water. Now, that made her a bit nervous. Flooded caves? Really weren't good things, really. It wasn't as if anyone could swim for the surface, and if there was a heavy tide, then they'd just be bashed back and forth on the rocks, and there'd be that whole death thing again that they all wanted to avoid. Eventually, though, she managed to get to the end, where there was...a rather pretty waterfall and a spring. I never trust shite like this. It's always somethin stupid. she thought sullenly, but looked back towards the blackness she'd come from, and manifested just long enough to shout, voice echoing up the tunnel.

Behind Door Number 3

who: Eva, Doc, Seph & Syn
where: mine of crazy doomness
when: afternoon

Seph was bemused as he entertained the thought that walking down into a mineshaft was something like a comfort. It wasn't their dreamscape, by far, and the flashlights kind of ruined some of the effect, but there was something about being underground in tunnels that made him feel better. It felt weird, granted, spiritually speaking. Like the rhythm was off somewhere vital, but the feeling wasn't strong yet. The whole place still felt kind of familiar to his crossed wires. They'd grown up in a cave, after all, and their secret mental landscape was mostly under the surface. Part of him half-expected to find the room at the center, where both of their labyrinths met. Their shared space. It wouldn't happen, and he didn't want it to with other people there, but still. He glanced over at his sister as he walked, arm that wasn't holding the flashlight extended to one side so his fingers could brush lightly against the jagged rock walls. What do you think of her? he posed to his twin, referring to Doc's knockout of a girlfriend who had unexpectedly turned up with him. Maybe an inanely odd question for their situation, but hey.

Who: Dorian, Mathias, Harper, Herbert, Charlotte, and Fallon
Where: The Mine
When: Afternoon

Until he'd been trudging through a small, cramped tunnel with them, Herbert had liked Mathias and Dorian well enough. Dorian was friendly, if kind of quiet, and looked out for shy little Harper, and Mathias was charming and one of the other more concerned people on this endeavor rather than one of the excited or jittery ones. Someone else who was going to be careful and concerned was, to Herbert, a very good thing.
