Charlotte felt better now that school had started, and fell back into the routine of it all with relief and ease. She was glad it looked like things could be getting back to normal, and with that... time to get back to the plans. First, she sent a message to Kaysen.

Who: Chance and Kaysen
Where: Chance's House
When: Early afternoon
It was another day without school, for which Chance was thankful. He wasn't sure he'd have gone even if school had been back in session. He wasn't having a particularly good morning, given he hadn't slept much the night before. He was too busy trying to deal with the fact that Devon had died. And that Kaysen had nearly probably killed herself trying to save his life. He was maybe handling everything better than he could have been. Anger and pain still wanted to surface. He still wanted to hit things and break things and find someone to blame for everything, but he couldn't. After his mom left for work, he sat out on the porch, watching a few of his neighbors cleaning up their yards. Everything felt quiet and still now, without a barrage of destruction to report on the news this morning. Chance wondered if maybe the vampires had moved on. Maybe. He sat on one of the porch chairs, staring ahead, his mind shifting back to Kaysen. It was easier to think about her than anything else. She wanted to know about him. And he wanted to tell her, yet at the same time, now he was afraid too. He didn't want her to be scared of him. That was his worst fear, that she would look at him like he was a monster, or something to be frightened of. Sighing, Chance leaned forward and ran his hands through his hair. After a moment's hesitation, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and forced himself to punch in her number. He'd at least ask her how she was feeling, just to hear her voice. Maybe if she was feeling better, he could convince her to come over. Or to allow him to come see her. Hearing her voice wouldn't be enough. He wanted to see her, hug her and just be with her, as cheesy as it was in his mind. She'd help him maintain sanity, at least for a little while.

Who: Thom and Kaysen
Where: Thom's basement
When: Morning
Thom had stayed overnight at Isaac's house, though his friend had been quieter than usual. He wasn't happy with where things were right now, but in the middle of vamp!crisis when his protected had knocked herself out doing shit - really not the time for friendship talks, so Thom had been kinda avoiding, just for now.
There'd been a note from his mom when he got home, telling him to watch the news and informing him that it looked like the vampires had moved on. Which was so great he couldn't express it. School still wasn't back in session though, so he headed down to the basement to start clean up, converting it back to the band's room. Maybe he'd be feeling better about things if he could just get that space back. It'd at least give him a neutral topic with Isaac, something he could get the guy over for, something they could talk about that he wouldn't be left feeling that there were undertones about.
Kaysen, when she was physically able to get up and go over to the Harkin's household, did that. She had decided she was going to go shout at Thom after her conversation with Isaac, and she still planned to follow through on that. So, there she was. She paused outside the back door for a moment or two, wondering if she should knock. The past few days had kind of been in and out between both houses, so she actually wasn't totally sure. And anyways, she was there to yell at the guy, would it be weird to knock first? She was thinking about this too much. In the end, she walked in, and checked the basement first, since that was where they'd spent most of their time when she was there, and whenever she was over the house in the first place, that was where she went. "Thom! You in here?"

Who: Kaysen and Isaac
When: midday
Where: St. James house
Isaac had woken up in Peyton's bed with his phone ringing. It was a little disorienting. But it was Kaysen, who apparently wanted to talk to him when he got home. Which he totally didn't have to rush, but if he wanted to come home soon, he could. He'd woken up Peyton enough to say goodbye and he'd call her later, and was sure to be quiet on his way down and out of the house. Just in case Tyler was around somewhere. It was on the walk back that he sort of decided he ... didn't really feel better about anything. A little better rested, but no closer to some sort of conclusion or compromise or anything. He walked in the front door and headed up the stairs toward her room, half hoping this wasn't another kind of trainwreck. Though her door was cracked, Isaac rapped his knuckles on it softly.
Kaysen looked over from where she was curled up on her side on her bed. The lights were off, and there was a single candle lit, on her nightstand. She'd been meditating, or drawing energy, or whatever it was called. She still felt vaguely like hell. When the knock came and she propped herself up, she smiled. It was a mixture of relief and a grateful sort of tone. He hadn't made her wait, he'd come right home. "Hey." she said. "C'mon in." she added, inviting him as she curled back up again.

Kaysen was not in a good mood. She hadn't slept well, she'd had a bad night, and generally speaking, she was of the opinion that Everything Sucked. So when dawn had hit, she'd left, being very quiet about it, but she did in fact take off. she'd considered going inside her house, back up to her room to sleep or something, but in the end decided she probably wouldn't do that anyways. So she'd climbed up into the treehouse, and sat up there, curled up with her hoodie pulled over her knees, arms hugging them, even her hood up as she sort of glared out at the dreary world. She could see little lines of smoke in between the leaves, and tried to resist the urge to push the branches back to see them better.
That she managed...she probably wouldn't see the source anyways, she'd probably just see more smoke, and have it pounded home even better that the world had gone to hell. She was really heavily down in her own mind, not paying attention to most of her surroundings as she brooded.
Thom had missed Kaysen leaving - once dawn had come, his guard had dropped somewhat and with the texts from Leija and generally being dead on his feet, he'd headed up out of the basement to brew some really, really strong coffee. It was only when he'd down his first cup and poured himself another that he realised that she was missing. So, he went looking for her, carrying a couple of mugs of coffee and some granola bars that would pass for breakfast. In actual fact, the tree house was one of the first places he looked - mostly because he doubted she'd hang around his house and he didn't particularly want to face her parents, so down the garden seemed like a plan. And he was rewarded by the sight of Kaysen-feet, though obviously drawn well back. "Can I come up?" he called. "I have coffee and, er, breakfast," he offered, suddenly realising that he didn't actually know whether she drank coffee or not. Oh well.

Who: Kaysen, Thom, Isaac, and Peyton
When: night!
Where: Thom's basement
As promised, Isaac had shown up at the Harkin house an hour before sundown, with his sister and Peyton in tow. The St. James parents hadn't much liked the idea at first, not wanting their kids to be absent all night with everything going on, but Isaac had managed to convince them that this was the best plan. The Harkins had a finished basement, there was safety in numbers, and Ashbelle had regular police patrols watching the place (which was something he'd just made up off the top of his head, but sounded pretty good at the time). Eventually they'd relented, and he'd made the calls, got some stuff packed, and jaunted off to pick up Peyton.
He opened the front door and let the three of them in, walking in with the familiarity that he always had, and started to lead the way toward the basement, adjusting the backpack on his shoulder. It was stuffed mostly full of air mattress, and the pump thing was in one of his hands, clunking lightly against the door as he opened it and started down the stairs. Stubborn bastard better be sleeping, he thought to himself, the possibility keeping him from hollering out a greeting as per usual.

Charlotte had been doing her best not to freak out. She flipped channels on the TV, but didn't get any information. There were fires, a gas station had blown up, general chaos... but no one could say what specifically had happened, just to stay at home and await further information. Valen never called back, and she was afraid if she called her mother she'd just worry. Charlotte tried to meditate with her hands in a plant to feel better, and kept sending Anna upstairs to look out the window and make sure things in their street hadn't blown up. So far, so good.
She had to check in with her friends. Wiping her hands off on her pants, she quickly dialed Kaysen's number. It was late, but... well, there was an emergency of some sort going on, and they'd just been talking about keeping up to date on this kind of thing. She just had to know her friends were okay.
When her phone rang, Kaysen jumped a little, but then answered it. "Hello?" she asked. Then it occurred to her she should have checked to see who was calling. Most people she knew who did were like...in the house directly or hopefully sleeping by now. But nope. Apparently not.

When the vehicle stopped and Kaysen got out, and followed Chance into his house, she was decidedly nervous. She couldn't help it really, it was just there. There, and so insanely not going away. However, it was a pretty good kind of nervous. Sure, she had to talk to him about the kinda thing that Charlotte and she were thinking on doing, but she could wait to get into serious 'so in case the world ends' talks, right? Right. Instead, her mind was distinctly Elsewhere. Like, totally on chance, and wondering what might happen if they had his house to themselves. She found that because she was feeling that bit of nervous, she was having trouble coming up with something to say, but she attempted to. "When's your mom get home, anyways?" she asked. "Did you tell her um. About. Er. Stuff?" she asked.
"My mom?" He dumped his bag by the front door and shut it after Kaysen entered. Turning toward her, he reached down to pull off his shoes, letting them fall where they may. "Usually she gets home around seven. But she's been staying the night over at her boyfriend's house lately." He tried his best not to make a face, but it was clear he wasn't overly happy with it. "That's why I couldn't hang out last night... she had him over for dinner so I could meet him 'properly'." And then he did scowl. Briefly. "I've told her a little. I mean, we don't really... talk. Much. About anything." Mostly yelling and screaming, really. "I'm afraid if I tell her about you, she'll want you over for dinner too, or something. Not that that's bad. But my mom's... she's not really..." Sane? "I don't know."

Kaysen really wasn't sure how things worked. She wasn't. She didn't know how everyone else did their business. How people dated. Because, well, she'd gone and totally agreed to go out with Chance, and now she sorta...didn't know what came next. She wasn't even wearing her hoodie today, she was just kind of thereish. There, ignoring most of the rumors spreading around, though she did notice there was almost a shocking lack of ones involving her and chance. People were still going on about Lullaby and her funeral, and how badly Chrissy was taking it, and how that Dean kid was like, totally crazy or something, and there were a few others, but she wasn't paying that much attention. She was kinda sorta still floating in weird happy land, and she wasn't looking to have a comedown.
Even if the news of the badness in Munising was filtering through to some degree, and it did in fact have her freaked on some real levels...it was kinda sorta...distant. Like it wasn't effecting her yet. Not quite, anyways. Or not now. That didn't mean she hadn't lost sleep the night before, even after Thom had texted her again. Which she was half realizing he'd started taking to doing every night. Last night, she'd even kinda been waiting for it. And then he had. So, she'd been up late, and had considered writing in her diary, but had stared at the blank page for ages before she'd shut it. It was like she couldn't even put it into words right now.
Someone loved her. He'd said it. He hadn't even taken it back, he'd totally repeated himself and everything. It was...something, alright. Now, she was looking around for him in a vague sort of way that was an attempt to not look like she was looking for someone. It occurred to her that she had no idea where he spent his time at lunch time, and she could text him to ask, but she kinda wanted to find him on her own.

The day was seeming to stretch on forever for Sammy. He couldn't believe that it was only a little after one o'clock in the afternoon - it felt like...well, he didn't know what it felt like, but it didn't feel like it was one in the afternoon. He smiled nervously at the English teacher as he quietly shut the door to the classroom behind himself and avoided meeting his classmates' eyes as he made his way to the back, where the only free seats were now. That was - of course - what came from being late. He huffed a bit in annoyance - it wasn't like he had actually meant to be late for English. He liked the class!

It was with strange anxiousness that Chance waited for Kaysen after school. He'd driven purposely that day because they had made plans for her to come over, and he really didn't know if she was going to go home first, or just go straight home with him. He supposed he could have asked her earlier, but, well, he was really sort of caught up in the stupid excitement that they would get to hang out alone. Granted, he had spent some of the day with Sunday, but they'd been at the carnival, around other people. Not to mention there was still the funeral, and death hanging like a rainy black rain cloud over them. That wasn't to say everything was perfect now - that there was sunshine and rainbows. Hell no. But he wanted normalcy. He wanted to just hang out, watch movies, or do something, anything, to get his mind off of things. And he wanted that with her. He shifted from foot to foot, trying not to be too impatient as people filed out of the school, heading off into every possible direction. He barely saw any of them, his gaze focused soley on finding Kaysen.
Kaysen was a little excited too. School today again had been a somber affair mostly, and she was kind of twitchy over it a little. So she was looking forward to seeing Chance, and hanging out and being normal for a while. She was thinking of her flowers again when she spotted him, and she veered in her path to walk up. "Hi." she said. She was a little wary, feeling exposed since, well. Everyone was still around them n stuff, but still. Kaysen was aware that one day, she was going to have to get over that. Maybe. So she'd do it in little bits. Or something. Whatever.

Kaysen, after getting her gifts from Chance, was in a weird mood. Weird, probably because it was a good one, especially with all the badness going on. But...she'd gotten flowers and ice cream, and that was sweet. She'd already had a little of the ice cream, but was saving it for later too. She was kind of half waiting for her brother on the front step, debating when to call Chance back to talk to him. But...she was going to the festival with her brother, and those two didn't exactly mix. Therefore, she was waiting til later. Their grounding was lifted, and she was glad about that too. So, she was humming to herself slightly as she waited, foot tapping as she bounced her leg restlessly.
Isaac had slept hard, and that was okay. Good, even. Peyton had rubbed his back and hung out for a little while, and then gone home, and not long after that, he was down for the count. The parents had lifted their grounding that morning, and he'd decided -- sort of to try and make up for the day before -- that he was going to take Kaysen to the festival thingie and maybe like ... buy her a poster and a hot dog or something. It was a nice day out, at least, as he stepped out of the house and shut the door behind him. He flipped the keys over into his palm and made a head motion toward the driveway. "Ready?" he asked.

Who: Thom and Isaac, then with Kaysen
Where: Phone, St. James house, backyard

It was a good job that Thom had told Leija just to come on down, let her know where the key is and that she should just let herself in, because some time after that, the boy had finally fallen asleep, and into a deep, nothing's-waking-this-guy-up, semi-coma of a sleep. He'd completely missed the fact she'd been round at all, didn't stir when she'd left and, in fact, was still asleep when the phone that he'd left by the side of his head rang, startling him awake. He lifted his head, pushing a mop of brown hair out of his face with one hand as he held the handset to the side of his head with the other. "'lo?" he murmured, sleepily. It was only then that he actually realised that he'd slept, really, honestly slept. For the first time in days.
Isaac was sitting with his back to his closed bedroom door. He'd been woken up by his parents, seen ... the news. Gone immediately to Kaysen, though he couldn't have said why now for the life of him. And now he was making phonecalls. He'd called Peyton first, just by looking at the phone list and now that was done for the moment, because he had to call Thom. Couldn't not call Thom. He felt ... numb and surreal and all together not well. Not well at all. "Thom," he said, his normally lively tone deadened and quiet. "Wake up, dude. Now."

Isaac had been woken up by his mother, who unceremoniously walked into his room, shook him awake, and turned on his TV. He'd caught the tail-end of the story, but it was enough. Her picture was on the screen. His mom filled him in on the rest, as he sat there in his boxers with a sheet over him, still trying to blink sleep out of his eyes. Lullaby Draven. Shot and killed the night before, in some sort of freak accident. Either a freak accident or something horrible and random. He sat there and didn't believe it. Flat out disbelief. But then his mom -- who had never known Lullaby, but knew that her son would -- had started to cry and hug him, and things started to kind of sink in. It wasn't so much that the dark-headed deaf girl was dead. It was more that her own children had been missing for three days not that long ago, and it could've been them. Or that was what she wept onto his shoulder. Eventually, she let go and went away, and he got up, pulled on some shorts, and walked out of his room. He couldn't have really said why he went to Kaysen's door right away, but he did. Knocked enough to wake her up.
