The End of the Road

Where: Billy's house
When: Late evening/ night
Maddie was sort of half hovering by the window, watching down into the drive. Not that she could see a lot, even if they'd turned the porch lights on. It was bloody dark. But she was watching anyhow. She also wasn't fantastically enamored with her evening with Billy being interrupted, but she supposed, those things happened. She was leaned against the wall, and she glanced over at her boy. "...still not sure what this is all really about." she said, frowning. "I also don't remember you lot bein this punchy, but maybe I'm romanticizin my memories of it all." she added. That had a little touch of a half smile on the end of it.

Who: Dean and Oz
Where: Their house
When: About ten minutes after Lullaby left
Dean heard the front door close. He heard the sound of the gravel beneath her feet. He listened until he couldn't hear anymore, until all he could hear were the muffled voices from downstairs. Had anyone else even noticed she'd gone?
He didn't know how much time passed, how long he sat there in the dark, his arms wrapped around his pulled up knees. It felt like an eternity, though he doubted that it was that long. Long enough for her to walk away, long enough for him to go through a whole gammit of emotions and arrive back at emptiness. He stared into the dark until something changed and he took a breath. He didn't feel any different, he'd had no blinding revelations, or great plans, nothing like that. But he'd sat there for long enough and he couldn't do it any longer. So he got up and opened the closet door, blinking in the light. It felt like an age and his room felt empty, but he wasn't staying there and he crossed to the other door quickly, pulling it open and almost tripping over the bunny that fell through the door as he did so.

Who: Dean and Oz
Where: Outside their house / by the lake
When: After school
When Dean got home from school, Oz was sitting on the front porch, sort of half waiting for him, half absently playing his guitar. He hadn't gotten it out in ages, what with imminent death possibilities, which really killed any creative spirit he'd had going on. Either way, he was playing now. Which had gotten a couple of squees from the dead girl upstairs. He'd plugged in his amp for her earlier to play a little, apparently sometime after Sophie had gotten schooling squared away for her. He was back to acoustic by now though, playing Creep by Radiohead, one of the two pretty much default songs he always played when he was in thoughtful mode.
Dean headed up the driveway on his bike, half an eye on the weather, since he'd gotten wet riding in this morning in the drizzle. But so far, he was still dry - a fact of which he was definitely a fan. he slowed to a stop and dismounted, propping the bike up against the front porch as he took in Oz - he'd been able to hear the music from some distance away, but he hadn't realised what he'd been listening to. "Didn't know you played," he commented, not making a move to walk into the house, since he'd have to squeeze past the guy and, really, that seemed rude.

who: oz and sophie
where: their house
when: mid afternoon
Sophie had breathed a sigh of relief seeing the news that morning, but hardly dared believe it. This wasn't how it happened - they didn't just 'go away'. At least, they hadn't last time. What had been the difference here? Had more people fought back? Had this been a smaller group? Had there just been something more interesting downstate? She had to smile at that last thought - the idea of a group of bloodthirsty vampires being distracted by something shiny was somewhat amusing, after all. She'd spent the morning on the phone to the insurance company, reporting the fire damage and arranging to have the claim forms emailed to her and now she was in her study, trying not to give herself a headache filling them in as she was asked to explain how the fire had started. In the end she'd gone with 'vandals' and hoped nobody would ask too many questions.
Oz had been assessing things with Billy a little more earlier, and after Dean had returned--then gone and fetched Lullaby and immediately gone to hide in his room, he figured it was around time he had a talk with Sophie about the living situation. What with it probably changing and all. So, he went to find his wife and found her in her study. Walking up behind her, he tugged the hair off of the back of her neck and pressed a soft kiss there. "Busy?" he asked, ticking his gaze to what she was working on. Ahh right. Insurance shit. Which he was soooo not at all taking any part in. She took care of that kind of thing.

who: billy and oz
where: osbourne residence
when: mid morning
Another night of not being attacked by vampires had passed and the sun was, once again, well above the horizon. Billy had watched the morning news, which had served to remind him that the rest of town was still suffering - though the glow in the night sky and the drifting sounds of sirens had told him that already. People were still dying out there and the town would never be the same again, of that he could be certain. He'd attempted to dreamwalk last night, just to get a feel for people, but had found that many of the people he would 'normally' visit weren't there. He assumed they were awake, on watch, fighting - or possibly they were dead. Not a pleasant thought. He'd found a few sleepers, but each and every time he'd faced nightmares. He'd done what he could, the key was always the same - the vampires, or the monsters if the dreamer hadn't cottoned on to what was happening. A few more people would have had better sleep because of him. It had left him tired, as it always did, but he'd never intended to get proper sleep last night anyway - he'd catch up this afternoon.
Now, though, he was going to enjoy the sunshine as he poured himself a coffee and fixed it to his liking before wandering, barefoot, outside to sit on the wall in the back garden, closing his eyes for a moment, letting the sun play over his face. It was peaceful here - far removed from town, the neighbours fled, the sirens quieted with the coming of the day. One could almost forget what was going on. Almost. He could, at least, pretend and take a moment.
He opened his eyes again and as he did so, he spoke her name, calling Maddie to him, knowing that she'd come - she had to, after all. So he called for her and waited.
Nothing.

Oz had spent most of his day helping Billy get the house into something resembling working order again. It wasn't exactly easy, and there was a lot to actually be done. Which meant while he'd gotten a bit of a nap in in the afternoon area...he'd been up the rest of the day and was going to be up the rest of the night, too. Joy. It was starting to get late, and that was when he went to find Sean, to discuss a little something he'd overheard earlier. The angel was upstairs, mending the window he'd broken through the night before, and Oz entered the game room, then shut the door behind himself. Walking over, he leaned back against the wall. "I'd like to have a discussion." he said. And it wasn't necessarily a 'can we' sort of deal. He wasn't sounding hostile or anything, just firm.
Sean wasn't exactly doing a great job of the window, and he was aware that Billy could have probably done a much better job, but the handyman was elsewhere and Sean didn't like the idea of there being an open window - even if it was several stories up. Anyway, it had been raining on and off all day and so he'd taken a couple of sheets of ply and some nails and had been boarding it up when Oz turned up. He finished nailing (crookedly) the final corner of the sheet in place before turning to the guy. "Sure," he said, easily. "What's up?"

Who: Dean and Oz
Where: Their House
When: Sunrise
When dawn came, Oz had still been outside gathering up bits of Lullaby. The vamps had retreated a while ago, after he and Billy had gone out to pick as many off as they could. Which was probably one of the most awful things he'd had to do in a good long while. Or...possibly around ever. He'd fought things, he'd seen awful shit, but gathering pieces of a teenage girl that was killed on your lawn...that wasn't pleasant. Especially when he'd kind of liked her in the first place. Either way, he was doing it, because it didn't seem right not to. He was still tracking some pieces down when he noticed something weird going on.
He'd laid her body over by the porch, not sure where else to put it quite yet, but as he watched, dawn starting to shine a little brighter now, he could see her...fading out. Almost like the breeze that was blowing across her corpse was blowing away ashes. He padded over, but it happened pretty fast. One minute she was there, then next...poof. Blinking a few times, he stared then slowly started to squint his bad eye shut more, with the morning light getting brighter. Unable to do anything else but stand there staring, he turned, and headed back inside. Once in there, he ducked into the bathroom and shifted back to his human form, throwing clothes on and ignoring all the aches and pains screaming at him.
"Sunshine, I'm going to go let the boys out..." he started, sounding distracted. He'd tell her in a second about the magic disappeary body. Then he padded barefoot down the steps, keys still in his pocket since he hadn't left them down there. He walked over to the cage, and unlocked it, more or less standing back just in case there was something inordinately violent going to happen...though he kind of doubted it. Best safe, though.

Things were relatively quiet, until around midnight. The night had been mostly undisturbed as far out as they were, though Oz had a police scanner in the kitchen quietly broadcasting. That told them that the vampires hadn't moved on from town, like they had the others. Fires were breaking out, people were dying, stores were looted, it was mayhem in town.
Just not out there. Not until it was interrupted by the first strike of lightning that crashed down from the sky all on it's own, to hit a figure that was moving in from the treeline. That was when the badness started.

Who: Dean and Oz
Where: The woods at the back of their house
When: Late afternoon
Dean wasn't at all sure where the day had gone. It had started just after dawn, that was for sure. And he knew a shit load more about vampires than he had done this morning. And he was fairly convinced that his cousin and her partner had done this kind of thing before - either that or they were just stunningly well prepared for anything and immediately snapped to it. He didn't know for sure though, because standing around talking hadn't much been the order of the day. Instead it had been more like lots of little jobs, do this, get that, check something else. He'd checked in on Thia every now and then, but Joshua was always there and he wasn't needed. At one point, though, he gave her his phone, telling her that she could use it to text people, pretend she was him. Check everyone was okay. All in all, the day had just flown passed, and suddenly it was the afternoon and Dean was just finishing off his latest job out at the front of the house.
Oz walked up, having done a lot of his own little jobs all day, preparing things, going over details with everyone, checking on Lullaby. He had another order of business, however, and as he put up with the sunshine outside, shades on, he stopped a few feet back from Dean as he finished. "Time to go do a little target practice." he said. Really, he wanted a little time away to talk to the kid too. There was...a lot going on. On a lot of different levels, and it was past time to have a conversation with him.

Who: Billy and Lullaby, then with Oz and Dean thrown in
Where: Oz' house
When: Wee small hours
Lullaby had not slept much. At all, really. She'd shut her eyes, and removed her bells so she didn't wake Dean up--she figured even if he were asleep in his room with the door shut, he'd hear it when she moved and she thought he needed a ton of sleep right now. And she'd tried. She'd really, really tried, but it hadn't happened. She thought maybe she drifted a few times, but she never actually stopped being awake. Eventually, she got up, and wanted to head downstairs, just to sit quietly for a while. When she crept into the hall as quietly as she could--invisible in the darkness that was starting only faintly to turn into morning, she stopped and looked over at Dean's door.
It was open. Frowning a tiny bit, she moved as silently as she could manage to look in the doorway. He was asleep, laid out on his bed, and she felt a little relieved. He'd gotten to crash at some point after all. Thank goodness--he'd needed it. So, witness her retreating away from it and down the steps quietly, so she didn't do any noise making to interrupt that. She got down the steps, and sort of half looked around, not sure where to go from there. So she wandered slightly, finding the living room easily enough. She was silent as she walked in, looking ghostly in the pale light in there. Someone was on the couch. Wait...someone was hurt and on the couch, weren't they? She tried to remember the name...Dean had said it. It started with a B.

The world was swimming as Billy drove up the road to Oz' house. It was a damned good job that there was no other traffic and that the place wasn't far, because he was swerving all over the place. His head was throbbing, the world wouldn't keep still, and he only had one hand that wanted to help with the whole 'working' thing. He clipped the corner as he pulled the battered truck into the gravel driveway of his friend's house and swerved to a stop, pushing down far too hard on the brake. He felt the pain lance through him as he jerked forward, then back and for a moment he lost his breath. This was the part where he got out of the car, he knew. But he didn't want to move. He was tired and his head was spinning. He should just sit here for a while. Maybe sleep for a bit.

Who: Dean Oz and Sophie (guest appearance by Lulu's parents)
Where: Their house, Lulu's house
When: Morning
Oz was up...mostly because he hadn't gone to bed. He had started taking to just staying up most of the rest of the night, and crashing during the afternoon for a while so he could have breakfast with Sophie and Dean. Or what passed for breakfast with them. Dean wasn't always that terribly talkative. But he still liked the kind of familyish feeling it had, and really wouldn't own up to. That might bring up questions about his own intentions when it came to family, which would bring up questions about marriage, and Sophie hadn't agreed yet. Therefore...he was sitting on that, an just having breakfast with people, to fill in the blanks. The television was on in the living room, and he rolled his neck to crack it as he was only half listening to it, ghosting up behind Sophie to drop a kiss on the back of her neck.
Dean was picking at his bowl of cereal. Like he always did, much to Sophie's despair. She'd always been under the impression that teenage boys were a bottomless pit when it came to food, but Dean hardly seemed to eat enough to satisfy a small bird. Dean, on the other hand, was aware that he was being watched, and so he actually made a point to take spoonfuls of cereal in between stirring it round his bowl to satisfy her. He'd never been a breakfast person. The noise of the television in the background was bugging him - he hated hearing it when he couldn't see it, especially when it was mostly annoying adverts, which seemed to be most of the time in this country.

Oz was kind of nervous about this. He'd gotten the call from Mathias about having some of the girl's stuff, and had started the set up. He was pretty sure that there were explanations that would be needed here, but he wasn't offering them up quite yet. Because really, the less he had to explain about knowing a really, really long dead witch? The better. He didn't really want to explain about the cage either, but maybe Mathias would just think he was a monster movie werewolf, and didn't really know the difference. Otherwise? He just had some crazy shit in his basement.
Either way, he didn't do a whole lot of overexplaining. About all he did was mention that Sophie didn't like magic, and that was why after she'd offered everyone drinks, she hadn't come downstairs. It was just prudent lack of explaining. Or something. Whatever. It was a sound theory about an hour ago, and he was sticking to it.

Madigan was up ahead, not that anyone else knew that. Or, not by sight anyhow, considering the twins had been kind enough to play interpreter for her to say she was going to go ahead, and people could follow if she called to them that there weren't any disasters waiting to happen or anything. Oz was bringing up the rear, in his handy dandy wolf form, and the group seemed to have grown exponentially since yesterday. Well, at least they'd split up so if disaster happened, it wouldn't be happening to half the bloody town.
She was fairly sure someone might want to pop her one for that sentiment, but it was true. Better only a few people than everyone. Let no one say Maddie was overly given to sentimentality. As she walked further along, the first thing she noticed was that she wasn't actually having problems with the whole not being able to carry a light things. That was because the cave was giving off sparkly light of it's damn own. As she walked further up the tunnel, the walls smoothing out like a bloody concrete tunnel, only prettier, she was hearing water. Now, that made her a bit nervous. Flooded caves? Really weren't good things, really. It wasn't as if anyone could swim for the surface, and if there was a heavy tide, then they'd just be bashed back and forth on the rocks, and there'd be that whole death thing again that they all wanted to avoid. Eventually, though, she managed to get to the end, where there was...a rather pretty waterfall and a spring. I never trust shite like this. It's always somethin stupid. she thought sullenly, but looked back towards the blackness she'd come from, and manifested just long enough to shout, voice echoing up the tunnel.

Oz was officially worried. He'd been sort of told that Dean had talked to Billy the night after the walk was supposed to take place, and Oz hadn't tried to contact Billy that day because he knew how badly walking kicked his ass. He had, however, expected some word after that. Which he hadn't gotten. And, as he paced around the basement with the phone to his ear, listening to it ring, he was grumbling to himself about not being able to drive, because he would have normally just gone over there. Alas, at current, he couldn't go unless he got a ride, and that rather cut down on sitting down and getting some alone time with Billy. He loved his wife and all, but you couldn't have the same kinds of conversations with someone else there as you could when alone, especially when it was her cousin who was involved, and grr. Pick up the goddamn phone.

Eventually it would, but he had yet to really feel that full relaxation that came with being someplace you truly considered yours. He had the bag he'd picked up earlier behind his back, and he moved through the house, following Sophie's scent trail. When he found her, he swept up behind her, putting his arm around her and kissing the crook of her neck. "I'm home." he announced unnecessarily, smiling with his lips pressed against her skin. "And I got you a present."

'Today feels different for some reason,' Amelia mused thoughtfully to herself. She fussed about her modest store, mentally tallying what needed replaced or restocked. 'Business has picked up lately. I might need to hire help soon...'
That caused a slight chill of anxiety to creep through her, but before it could amount to a full blown anxiety attack, she firmly stamped it down. 'Absolutely not, Amelia. You're a grown woman now, with a growing business. You're helping people now... and if you need to hire someone to help you, then you will. End of story.'
And with that thought in mind, Amelia flipped the sign on her door to 'Open' at promptly 10 AM, and began tending to her customers. In the back of her mind, she couldn't help but wonder if today would bring change...
