The Way Things Are

thinking finger on lip

who: dean and thia
where: osbourne residence
when: evening

Lullaby had had a busy time. She'd gone out for her walk, she'd done her thinking, she didn't think she'd woken anyone up with the out-for-a-walk-at-odd-hours of it all. She'd tried to be as quiet as humanly possible. When she'd gotten back, she'd curled up in the den and listened to the cd that was left on her grave with Oz's good headphones. She'd also wound up crashed out there, even if she hadn't intended to. When she woke up later, she'd wandered back upstairs to shower and change, then she sat in her room, milling over everything that had gone through her mind the night before.

One of the main things she knew she was in intense need of doing was starting to move forward. And while she didn't know how to do that per se, she was going to make an effort in small ways she thought could help. If nothing else, they probably wouldn't hurt. Therefore--she was making the room she'd been given into her room. This was kind of more difficult than one would think, especially when one didn't exactly have a whole lot in the way of personal possessions. However, she was making due with all the things she'd stolen the night before, and she was working on rearranging the furniture. This was more difficult than it looked, as the quality of furnishings in the Osbourne household was filed under the header 'ridiculously good' which meant it wasn't made out of particle board like most of the things at her home had been. It made moving things a hell of a lot harder since she was a small, not overly strong female. However, she was trying it--even if it was taking her for-fucking-ever.

It wasn't that Dean was avoiding her, no, not at all. He'd just... Decided that he should probably get homework done and so headed up to his room as soon as he'd got home from school and he'd been hiding there ever since. But he'd left his door ajar, so she could have come in if she'd wanted to. Right? He half expected it and kept glancing towards the door in case she'd managed to miraculously move silently and come in or something, but there wasn't anything.

Misplaced Apologies

Corwin-Smirk-byme

Who: Olivia and Corwin, and later some Herbert
Where: The streets
When: Late evening

Olivia was feeling much better, being back in Marquette. Which was strange, given all of the horrifying vampire death that had happened before she left. Sure, being back meant having to face all the complications she'd so expertly weaved in her life, but that was okay too. She could deal. She had to deal. Otherwise she would just want to run again, and she was trying so very hard to keep from doing that anymore. To keep herself occupied and distracted from the desire to go see Mathias. Or go knock on Judiel's door again, Olivia found the nearest open bar. She really was broke, but had enough cash left for a couple drinks. She could afford it, since she had every intention of going back to work tomorrow. Besides, having a quiet place where she could relax and think by herself was needed and while the bar might not have been really quiet, it was certainly easier to think there than holed up in her room.

After a couple of hours, she headed out and began to walk along the dark streets back toward home. After turning the corner away from the bar, she began to dig through her bag for her cigarettes, wavering only slightly as she wasn't really watching where she was going.

A Less Than Informative Information Source

Alex-Cracks-BySue

Who: Alex and Buttah
When: night
Where: Babylon

Though it would be a good idea to start going to Babylon just to see and be seen, tonight Buttah had a mission. She was looking for information, and if she was going to find it anywhere, she was going to find it there. She'd dressed down a bit for the occasion, just in some tight-but-flexible dark jeans and a low-cut black shirt. It tended to inspire folks to talk. She found the building easily enough, now that she knew what it was, and just kind of shook her head. Right next to the elementary school, that was kinda fucked up. Bu walked in, shrugging out of her light jacket and slinging it back over one shoulder. She took a second to glance around the place before she headed for the bar and slid into a seat. "Jus' the man I was lookin' for," she said with a little smile to the guy behind it.

Corwin-Grin-byme

Who: Shannon and Corwin
Where: Quinlan residence
When: Evening

Shannon sat on the front porch of her house lightly stroking Gin the cat's back as the creature lay sprawled out leisurely beside her. She had left a message for Corwin earlier in the day letting him know she wished to talk with him that evening if possible. Aiden was to be out, so no angry type confrontations would take place at the Quinlan residence. So the vampire would not be accosted should he come for the requested visit. Shannon only hoped her friend would come, after having met Anna in the park that morning she was desperate for someone to talk to about the woman. The dreamweaver. She couldn't bring herself to tell Aiden about the woman, at least not yet for fear he might disapprove of the dreamweaver in the same way he disapproved of her friendship with Corwin. Of course there was a huge difference between one being a vampire and one being a weaver of dreams, but if Aiden considered Anna a threat to her....well Shannon plain didn't want to think about that.

Corwin was coming. He had Kirk on a leash with him, as the dog needed a walk and he figured Shannon might like meeting him, and maybe Aiden would think differently about him if he brought plenty of pets, and Davey, who was always interested in a romp, but no ghosts. Theresa didn't like visiting people who could see her, and Eric never showed up until later at night these days. The dog wasn't being terribly well behaved-- but then, when was he?-- tugging on the leash and trying to drag Corwin bodily in whichever direction he wanted to go. Thankfully, Corwin was much bigger and stronger than the three-legged mutt.

He caught sight of Shannon sitting on the porch and waved, grinning behind his scarf. "Kirk, we're not going across the street. Kirk, come on, this way."

Who: Jordan and Herbert
When: Late afternoon – After school
Where: Trowbridge park

The only reason Jordan knew what day it was, was because she’d had school today and that meant it was a weekday. Time seemed to just pass so strangely since Devon had died. She wasn’t even sure she’d made it to all of her classes today. She was pretty sure this is what they normally call depression.

Jordan, not wanting to go home and listen to her mother worry over her- the comment last night about ‘seeing someone’ being the last straw- she went to the park instead and walked. She’d really not been to the park since… well she couldn’t remember the last time she’s been to the park. Jordan was dressed in her normal dark colors, black jeans, boots, button-up and Devon’s trench. Her book bag was draped over her shoulder and her hands shoved deep in her pockets. As she walked her eyes ran along the trail, they were red (had been for a few days) but her tears were long gone.

So what's that like?

Who: Brian and Ash
Where: Babylon
When: Early evening

All it had taken was a quick phone call, a suggestion of place, and a counter-suggestion of time, and Brian was on his way to Babylon. On foot, seeing as Marlowe still had his car, but that was just fine. He had his cane, he had his cat to kick at now and then if he was feeling annoyed with him-- not that he ever hit; Torziel seemed to think it a fun game to dodge the randomly-timed feet aimed at his paws, and was dancing around them with a very entertained expression-- and Babylon would probably obligingly show up right as he was getting to be in too much pain to continue on. It had an annoying habit of doing that. Too bad it didn't show up when he wanted it to show up. Say, immediately.

The fact that Ash knew about and agreed upon doing their drinking at Babylon said interesting things about Ash, honestly, but all Brian figured it meant was he didn't have to be quite so careful about what he said or did. Maybe. The fact that this might well be the last night Babylon would be Olivia-free for a while meant Brian had really kinda wanted to go there, so he was willing to bring up a place the other party might never have heard of. Hell, he was willing to bring the man there, if he had to.

Apparently he didn't have to.

Who: Caleb and Leija
When: afternoon, post-school
Where: lockwood residence
Warning: nsfw-ish

After opening her bag up at home, sitting, and then giving up on the pretense of actually doing any homework, Leija left a note for her dad and headed out again. She fingered the phone in her hoodie pocket and wondered if she should call first. Could she just drop in, now that she was 'the girlfriend'? She had the idea that that kind of meant different things to different people, and she was still in the process of figuring it out with Caleb. Not that it hadn't been an enjoyable process so far -- more than once she'd caught herself daydreaming in class about the Lockwood garage -- but still. As she walked, she decided he probably wouldn't care if she just showed up, and if he wasn't home then she could come up with a Plan B to occupy herself. She mounted the porch steps and knocked, stepping back and retucking her hands into her jacket.

Caleb was in the living room, sketching. Nothing in particular, really, he was just doing it to occupy his mind for a while. He had a few things on it, and he was attempting to sort through it all. When the knock on the door came, he dropped it off onto the floor and got up, going to answer it. His first thought was that he and his brother didn't get many visitors, and second that he hoped it wasn't Math's psycho-not-girlfriend. When he opened it on Leija, he smiled. Much better than anyone else. "Hey." he said, not at all appearing to mind her showing up without warning.

"And I will walk on water, and you will catch me if I fall."

Warning: NSFW

As he was leaving school, Isaac had texted his girlfriend again. She was awake and was okay with him coming over, so that was where he headed instead of going home. This wasn't the first time she'd felt bad, and it worried him a little. It was hard to get Isaac sick, he tended to have that whole 'healthy as an ox' thing going on -- at least physically, anyway -- and so Peyton being sick was something to fret over. He'd also heard through the rumor mill who's house it had been that burned down, and he recognized her friend Geo's name in there. Which was something else to worry about, as he knew it would probably be having an effect on her. It was hard to imagine it not.

She'd told him to come on in when he got there, that the door would be unlocked. It was starting to feel natural to do now. Not nearly so much as Thom's house, but close enough. He opened the front door and stuck his head in momentarily, listening. Tyler's car wasn't in the driveway, and the rest of the house sounded quiet. Isaac stepped in and readjusted the straps on his backpack, closing the door behind him again and locking it out of habit. "Peyton?" he called, though not overly loudly, wanting to judge where she was before he started tromping through the place.

Some Much-Needed Help

Herbert-Confident-HA

Who: Herbert and Claire
Where: School!
When: Statistics class, after lunch

The trend of being on time or even early for class was continuing; Herbert wasn't complaining. Though once he reached statistics, he was starting to think maybe he should. This was by far his worst class, and the one class he hadn't managed to get something done for over the weekend. After Geo and Sammy Saturday, and then Olivia finally coming home Sunday, trying to figure out statistics had just been beyond his poor brain's capability. Most of his other classes he's managed something decent to turn in, but not this one.

So he had to sit there, guilty-feeling and wondering just how badly it would hurt his already-not-too-high grade to have not done a single problem, for ten minutes until the bell rang. He really needed a distraction.

Home Now

lonely couch

Who: Olivia and Judiel
When: 8:00am
Where: Judiel's apartment

She'd arrived home yesterday in the early evening, greeting Herbert and dumping her bag - heavier than it was when she left - in her bedroom. After a long, hot bath and a small sandwich, she'd proceeded to fall asleep on the couch despite wanting to go see Judi. Exhaustion after a couple days away, the sleepless nights, grieving and the plane rides quite simply caught up to her. Olivia had woken well before sunrise and blindly reached for the phone to call Mathias, leaving a short message on his cell to tell him she was home, if he'd even wanted to know. Even though they had kinda-sorta-weirdly made... plans? before she left, she still felt like she'd left on strange terms with him and the weird pit in her stomach didn't go away until she'd said goodbye and hung up the phone.

In any case, she'd focused on making Herbert breakfast before he left for school and then changed into jeans and a t-shirt before being unable to fight the urge to see Judiel anymore. Barefoot, Olivia left her apartment and padded quickly down the hall to his door. It was early yet, so she wasn't sure if he'd even be awake yet. Not like that had ever stopped her before, and it certainly didn't stop her now. She knocked eagerly, trying not to shift impatiently back and forth as she waited for the door to open. He was taking way too long in her opinion, and she lifted her hand to knock again, wishing she'd taken him up on that key to his apartment before.

A New Lunch Spot

bw profile mild

Who: Herbert and Leija
When: lunchtime
Where: outside

Avoiding people had become something of an art form. Specifically, Thom and Isaac. And Isaac's sister, just in case. As well as the other members of the band. In fact, Leija had quite a list going of people that she tried her best to dodge all day long. Between classes it wasn't really difficult, but lunchtime ... she and Thom had the same lunch period. Even though they'd texted during the vampire crisis, she didn't know at all if that constituted them as friends -- yeah, right -- or if she was even allowed to text him ever again, if lives weren't in danger. She wanted to know how he was, but thought that asking was probably a really bad idea on her part. And certainly not in school with witnesses around. So, Leija had more or less taken to eating lunch outside. She usually brought it anyway, and it wasn't too hard to find spots where people weren't sitting.

She'd brought peanut butter and jelly, though she hadn't touched it yet. She sat with her legs crossed, the hood of her jacket up against the slight chill in the air, and stared out at the grass, mind sort of all over the place.

He just wanted to…sit. And do nothing. Yes.

A Little Help from a Friend

Who: Peyton and Herbert
When: Science class
When: Third period, morning

Peyton wasn't feeling all that well. Most of it was a sick feeling in her stomach from what had happened to Geo and Sammy's parents, but there was something else. A bug maybe, though she prayed she wasn't getting sick. She never missed school, except for days she'd ran into giant snake men, but she figured that had been a good reason. She'd felt off ever since she woke up and had shrugged off her dad's concerns, and then Tyler's as he drove them both to school. She already decided by the end of first period that after she ran her errands after school she'd go home and just sleep, and maybe by morning she'd feel better.

Trudging her way to science, she went directly for the class rather than trying to find Isaac. As much as she wanted to, the idea of sitting down and resting her head on the desk for awhile before she actually had to pay attention was far too tempting to pass up. Herbert wasn't there yet, so she climbed onto the stool, set her bag in front of her and folded her arms against it before resting her cheek against them, watching for Herbert.

Or, rather, how soon he could get back at them for it.

They hadn't really brought over much more than clothes, toiletries, books and movies, and the like. The dogs, left mostly alone all this time except when Brian swung by to feed them, play with them, and give them a little attention, were ecstatic when they walked in the door.

"No, ma, I think we can manage it," Joshua said as he walked out of the building, phone tucked between his head and his shoulder, as his hands were full of glossy pamphlets and papers. "The lady said a student visa isn't too hard to get, and she gave me some stuff about scholarships, so we might not have to ... well, yeah, I know you would, but if I can ..." He trailed off as she just talked over him, and grinned a bit.

The night before had been full of lots of thinking. And talking to himself, which was how he thought things through the best. Talking to Claire about future plans and jobs and the like had put sort of a spotlight on how useless he was being. He needed to do something with his life, whether Lu was in it or not. And unless he was going to -- clumsily -- stock groceries for the rest of his life, that involved going on with his school-plan.

"No, I don't have a major yet, that's not for a wh-- aw fuck," he cut himself off as a gust of wind caught the papers in his hand and blew them completely away across the grass. "I gotta call you back, ma, loveyoubye!" He hung up and pocketed the phone as he hurried to try and catch all of it.

Who: Dean and Caleb
Where: Art class
When: First period

Dean sat slumped in his chair, art pad open in front of him, his attention focused on that as he drew, filling up the white space, though his mind wasn't really there, not really. His mind was all over the place - still, like it had been all damn weekend. Oz had been right, Oz had been so, so right - he'd completely underestimated what it would take to live in the same house as the girl he had a thing for, especially when she was a cuddly type. But he hadn't expected... He'd started flirting with her, he knew. He didn't mean to, but, occasionally he'd realise that he had been - and that wasn't fair to her, wasn't fair to either of them. He knew why she and Joshua had broken up - even if there was a snowball's chance in hell she might be vaguely interested, which he doubted, now was not the time. Now was the time she needed to get her head straight and find herself and everything that went with that, not to have her best friend, who she trusted, start... But, she'd crawled into bed with him and he couldn't get that image out of his mind. He scribbled out the last drawing he'd done of her and turned the page, welcoming the white blankness again.

Caleb wandered into class a tiny bit late. This was due to the fact that he'd gotten a note tacked to his front door, which had been--weirdly enough--from Lullaby. Who had a request for him. One that, considering his opinion on Dean's love life, he had been more than happy to do. Therefore--lateness. He figured he and Dean should probably get together sometime soon, where it was less public, just to catch up and re-assess, but for now...there was art class. He walked up and dropped down into the chair on the opposite side of the table, eyeing Dean critically. "You look...broody." he observed.
