Keeping In Touch

Who: Corwin and Shannon
Where: The phone!
When: Late afternoon
It wasn't terribly unusual for Corwin to not get a lot of sleep. Before he'd died, Really, he was used to it. Which was totally why he was yawning as he looked up Shannon's phone number again.
At least he wasn't as angry as he had been the night before. There was still a little sullenness, a little mistrust, regarding Aiden and his attitude, but he no longer wanted to call Shannon and rant at her about her brother wouldn't let him see her. He expected seeing Sammy and Geo's burned-out husk of a house had something to do with that-- one reason he hadn't slept much, actually, waiting for an email to let him know they were still alive-- and probably smashing the Acherus statues to pieces accounted for the rest.
Or maybe it was just the time in the interim. He found Shannon's number easily in his contacts, finished the yawn, and dialed it into the phone, turning to settle against the kitchen counter and rub at his eyes as he waited for her to pick up. Really needed to get this place a portable....
It was probably the fourth ring when Shannon answered the phone. She had been curled up on the sofa, though far from having gotten any rest after the mornings little escapade, and was of half of a mind to just let the answering machine pick up the call.
"Hello?" The red head said softly into the phone once the handset was lifted to her ear. The thought to check the caller ID hadn't occurred to her and there for she had no knowledge of who was on the other end of the landline.
"Hullo. Shannon?" It had to be Shannon, of course, but... well, he'd never spoken to her on ... phone before. So he was tentative. "It's Corwin."
"Corwin, hello." Shannon said with a smile that went unseen by the person on the other end. Finding out just who it was that had called perked the dreamwalker up a little bit, which improved her state slightly from what it had been.
Yeah, definitely Shannon. "How are you? I'm sorry I haven't seen you in so long, I tried to stop by last night...." Tried being the operative word. Tried, gotten almost there, and was thwarted by a jerk of a big brother.
"Is everything all right?" She questioned back misinterpreting what he said about trying to stop by last night. Had something happened that prevented him from coming to the house. Streams of worry started now to flow through her mind with thoughts of just what might have happened.
"Oh, yes," Corwin answered with a little smile in his voice. "Unless you count a little annoyed and no more endeared to your brother than I was before. He was on your porch and he chased me away. Please tell me you were actually asleep at about nine, and he wasn't lying to me?" He highly doubted it, but if she had been he might have a sliver of respect left for Aiden. Maybe.
"You were here last night?" Shannon said completely taken aback by the fact shocked that Corwin had stopped by and she knew nothing of his visit to the house. She hadn't known he stopped by, Aiden hadn't, apparently, deemed it worth the effort to tell her. "I didn't know you had came by. I didn't retire until close to 10." She'd wonder why Aiden hadn't told her about Corwin stopping by, but the red head already had an inclination as to why her brother had prevented the visit from happening.
"I'm sorry." Why she felt the need to apologize for her brother's behavior the previous night escaped her, but Shannon did it any way as she felt it was needed. She hoped whatever had happened between the vampire and her brother wouldn't deter Corwin from coming by agian. Hopefully at a time Aiden wasn't there to again shoo him away.
Yeah, completely unsurprised that Aiden had failed to pass that information along. "It's all right, it's not your fault...." Corwin sighed a little, stooping to scratch at Kirk's ears as he sidled up to him. "He doesn't like me, and I doubt he ever will. Too hung up on the part with fangs and undeadness and all, I guess.... Maybe I should keep visits to the phone." Then neither of them would have to deal with the other. He wouldn't be the least be surprised to find Aiden staying at Shannon's every night, now that he knew Corwin knew where she lived.
"If that's what you want." Shannon said. Not that she'd want things to take that path, but she wasn't the one who'd have to deal with her brother. She knew Aiden's feelings where the vampire was concerned. Knew the great distrust he had of Corwin, and added to that fact she now knew what he did for a living. Shannon knew there'd be no way Aiden would knowingly allow Shannon near Corwin or vice versa if he was on the premises. "But Aiden isn't here on a constant basis." She offered up. She'd not like it at all if their only contact would be via the phone. And Eric. Would the ghost come for visits without Corwin?
"You don't think so?" Corwin said with a sad smile that she couldn't see. "He didn't know I knew where you lived, until last night... and he really doesn't like me. Not that the feeling isn't mutual, but... I might look forward to seeing more of him in the evenings, in the future, if I were you. I still do come by now and then, it's just usually very late, so I don't bother you. Just to check up with Gin." It was as good of an excuse as any, checking in with Gin.
"Maybe we should just keep our contact limited to phone calls." She said with more then a slight sadness tinging her voice. "At least for a few days time." Maybe if Aiden didn't catch Corwin anywhere in the neighborhood he wouldn't feel like he needed to keep a constant watch on his sister. Like that was even a possibility. But then with her brother being a hunter, as he had told her not all that long ago, Shannon knew he would leave town from time to time. From her understanding it was how he made his money, money that helped pay the rent for the house she was presently living in.
"Maybe," Corwin sighed. "I'll tell Eric to stop by, though. Maybe he can play scout for me," he said, trying to joke a little. "Pop his head in, see if Aiden's there, then come get me if he's not...." He slid down into a crouch to give Kirk a better scratching as the dog leaned heavily on his legs and thumped his tail against the cabinets. "He misses you, you know. Eric. We've all been so busy, with the Acherus and all, he hasn't had the chance."
"I...I miss him as well." She got out soften toned in something that was barely above a whisper. That was not to say Shannon didn't miss Corwin as well, she did enjoy talking with him even if he was an undead guy. It was just that Eric the ghost boy seemed to have a way of making her smile, something she didn't do all that often. He seemed to her to be more alive being dead then most living people.
Corwin didn't take offense-- he was older than Shannon by a whole decade, and Eric was closer in age. It made sense that she'd miss him, and not think quite so much about missing Corwin. "I'll tell him to come by soon, even if I can't," he promised. "He's still up in the mornings, so maybe he can come by then."
"Ok." She returned with a slight smile. At least one of them would be able to visit without detection by her brother should he be on the premises at the time. "And even if it's not possible for you to visit," something she was really hoping wouldn't stay in effect for very long. Her brother couldn't sit in guard on the porch forever, could he? "We can still share phone calls." Though to Shannon that wasn't the same as talking with Corwin in person.
"Of course," Corwin promised. "Though hopefully not forever." He preferred talking to people face to face, himself. Though that did remind him of the whole reason he had for his visit the day before, too.... "Shannon, you, erm, might be getting a phone call from someone named Billy soon. Maybe."
"Billy?" That name in no way rang any bells with the red head. "Is he a friend of yours?" She asked. Though she couldn't imagine why a friend of Corwin's, if that was what this Billy was, would be calling her.
"Not... exactly," Corwin sighed. "He's another dreamwalker, who I hired to put a floor in my basement-- it's just dirt, right now. He could see Theresa, and we got to talking, and when I mentioned I knew more dreamwalkers, he was just so... excited." He winced. "So I gave him your number. And my other dreamwalker friend's number. I should have asked first, and I'm sorry... I don't think very well on my feet."
"Oh." It really was all Shannon could manage. She'd never imagined she'd run into another dreamwalker, well aside from Corwin, though he knew about dreamwalking he didn't exactly have the ability to do so any longer. And what if, by chance, this Billy did call and Aiden answered the phone. "Did he mention when he might call?" Shannon finally finding her voice once more after the initial shock slowly started to wear off. Maybe he wouldn't phone her if he called, and spoke with, the other dreamwalker Corwin knew. Shannon knew from this point on she'd be checking numbers before picking up the phone as she was uncertain if she'd be wanting to talk with a fellow dreamwalker. Only when the time came would she realize the answer to that.
"He didn't," Corwin admitted, feeling rotten about it all over again with Shannon's stunned-sounding reaction. "He did say he's kind of busy right now, what with helping to put the town back together-- and then making me a floor-- so maybe it'll take a while?" Though whether putting it off would be a reassurance or just give her more time to worry, Corwin didn't know. He'd probably wind up just worrying longer and wishing it'd be over with. He'd suggest that maybe Billy would forget, but he doubted it, and didn't want to suggest a lie.
"Thank you for telling me." She told him. At least now she wouldn't be caught totally off her guard if Billy would call and she knew nothing about why he called or how he had learned of what she was. And she could only hope that Corwin was correct. That with this other dreamwalker being kept quite busy it would be a while before he made a call to her, or maybe it all would completely slip his mind. Shannon could only hope for that.
"It seemed the least I could do," Corwin said, a little sheepishly. He didn't get into possible dangers with Shannon, not wanting to alarm her. He was probably just being paranoid, and she, unlike Delilah, had a cat and a brother to look out for her. A brother probably even more paranoid than Corwin was. She'd be fine.
"So," he said, changing the subject entirely. "Tell me how you've been since I saw you last."
