A Peaceful Interlude

oz relaxed

Who: Sophie and Oz
Where: Their house
When: Afternoonish

Oz came back into the house in a good mood. His head hurt, but not as bad as it could be hurting. The sun had cooperated with him and gone behind some clouds on his walk home. It was still weird, the new place. He still had yet to really think of it as home. Eventually it would, but he had yet to really feel that full relaxation that came with being someplace you truly considered yours. He had the bag he'd picked up earlier behind his back, and he moved through the house, following Sophie's scent trail. When he found her, he swept up behind her, putting his arm around her and kissing the crook of her neck. "I'm home." he announced unnecessarily, smiling with his lips pressed against her skin. "And I got you a present."

Sophie had been in one of the guest rooms, unpacking yet more boxes. They'd only moved into their new house - the first house that they actually had solely to themselves and was theirs a couple fo weeks before and there were still boxes all over the place. Sophie didn't mind so much though - she was taking her time over this, wanting to get everything just right. She jumped a little as Oz caught her, but then relaxed into him. "A present?" she asked, intrigued. "What sort of present?"

Oz brought the bag around and held it up in front of her, arm still around her. "Found a shop today. The owner was really nice. She gave me a cookie and one for you and said to come back." he added, nuzzling at the crook of her neck because he always had terrible trouble not doing that when he had opportunity.

Sophie pulled away and little, enough so that she could turn round. "She gave you a cookie?" she asked him, her eyebrow arched and a hint of amusement on her face. "Is this something I should be concerned about?" she added, teasingly. But she took the bag anyway and sat down on a nearby box to open it.

"Jealous?" Grinning at her, he dropped down onto the floor next to her, hooking his hands around her ankle and resting his chin on her knee as he looked up at her. "Yes, be terribly concerned. I mentioned straight away that I was shopping for a gift for my wife. She's even invited you to come by with me next time and everything. I'm so terribly unfaithful to you." he teased, kissing her knee and smiling at her affectionately.

"Less jealous, more possessive, but you know that - and don't try and pretend you don't like it. I know you, J," she admonished, playfully. "OKay, so tell me about this nice new shopkeeper then - just so I know who to look out for..."

He gave her an innocent look that totally didn't manage to come off as innocent. "Who me?" he asked. "I don't like when you're possessive. I adore it." he corrected. "And this nice new shopkeeper is a girl with dark hair named Amy who makes cookies for her favorite customers of which I have joined the ranks. She seems nice, really, if maybe a little starved for company. Guess she hasn't had the shop open for long. But she had lavender stuff, so...." he trailed off.

Sophie drew the presents out of the bag. "So you know how much I like lavender?" she laughed. "You know, you're going to be buggered if I ever change my perfume. Or am I not allowed to do that?" she teased him. Of course, she never wore actual perfume, much preferring body washes and scented soaps, but the theory was still there.

"You already tripped me up when your scent changed when you were gone." Oz pointed out, giving her a pouty look. Internally, he really did twitch about that. "I'm used to it now, so if you went and changed things up again..." he shook his head. "Nope, not allowed." he said, smiling at her again. It was just the slightest bit dimmer than a moment ago though he tried to hide that. And did so more by resting his cheek on her knee and breaking eye contact than anything else.

"Lilac to lavender," Sophie agreed. "But that was a long time ago." And it was - they'd still been at school back then. IN the days before she left him and left the country, only to return because he'd nearly died and the soul bond that joined them had activated, giving her no choice in the matter. Not that she had a problem with that. It hadn't been easy, their reuniting, and sometimes it still wasn't - today appeared to be one of the 'good days' and Sophie was willing to go with that. She didn't like fighting with him, but they almost seemed predisposed to it sometimes.

He nodded. "Do you like it?" he asked, turning his bright blues back up on her again. He liked giving her gifts. He had started early in their friendship, little things here and there. But then he'd been the guy at school who spent his entire allowance on gifts for his (many) female friends for holidays and whatnot. He had a history of it.

"I love it - thank you," she grinned. "Plus they'll look great in the bathroom. I was thinking of painting it, redecorating, putting up new curtains - I want it to be all light and airy in there - but not too bright," she added, hastily. Brightness was out since Oz had been attacked, the damage to his eye meaning that he really didn't do well in bright light, something that Sophie was more than well aware of.

"Thank you." he said, looking at her smile. That was enough to make it worth it, and he was glad he'd gotten it. "You're supposed to use the lotion before bed and it'll give you good dreams. Or so sayeth the shop girl." he said, not at all getting into the whole brightness issue, because it was the last thing he wanted to talk about. He tensed up ever so slightly at her quick addition to it, and he shut his useless left eye, absently rubbing at it.

Sophie smirked. "But I always have good dreams," she countered. And it was true. She did always have good dreams - because her nightmares were caused by stress in her life and if they came, the soul bond between them activated, allowing Oz to come into her dreams, to sooth and comfort her, the way she could to him. So the few nightmares she did have were easily banished.

"Yeah, but still." he said, rubbing the back of her calf lightly as he smiled up at her. "Maybe they'll be extra special good dreams." he decided. Then he smirked. "Of course if they're too good, you'll probably squirm and moan and wake me up..." Not that he slept much at night. He was nocturnal by nature, after all. But he couldn't not tease.

"Hey!" she exclaimed, swatting him lightly. "Course, if I wake up after a dream like that, you probably won't be complaining either..." she pointed out.

He snickered when she swatted him, and he reached up to capture her wrist. He kissed the inside of it. "You're so mean to me." he said happily. Then he grinned. "Okay that's not such a bad plan." he agreed. He could handle her waking him up in the middle of the night for that.

Following the kiss, she twisted her hand round to bury her fingers in his hair, reaching down to kiss him softly before drawing away. "Thank you," she said, feeling the need to tell him how much he was appreciated, even if only in the look on her face. "So, you gonna help me unpack for a bit?" she asked him.

He kissed her back, feeling like he'd done good. Then he wrinkled his nose at her. "Do I have to? Can't we hire people to do that for us? While we...go for a walk on the beach or something?" he suggested hopefully. But he didn't push it as he pushed himself up to his knees, using her knee for leverage. He gave her another little kiss. "I'll help." he consented.

"Good - because no, we can't 'hire people'. They'd make a mess of it and put things in the wrong place and then I'd just have to do it all over again myself," Sophie argued. She wasn't very good at delegation, preferring to run things her own way. "What we can do is hire Billy to decorate this place though, if you want to mention it next time you see him." The dreamwalker was friends to them both, but Sophie knew her husband was much more likely to see him than she was. Especially since Billy had a habit of hanging out in Oz' dreams when he was too lazy or too busy to call round.

"I'll do that." Oz said. "Actually, tomorrow when we take a break from unpacking all this shit, we should take a ride and go look for colors and other stuff for some of the rooms. I'll help and everything." he promised her. He got to his feet, then held both hands out to help her up. "But for now..." he looked at the seemingly endless array of boxes. "Mystery hunt to sort through random stuff."

Sophie looked at him for a moment, impressed that he wanted to do that. She'd half expected to have to do this whole house thing on her own, the way she'd ended up picking it for them since Oz hadn't been loving going round endless realtors (though to his credit, he'd done a few). Shaking herself, she stood. "I'd like that," she admitted, before turning to a box. "Right, let's start with this one then," she suggested. "Then maybe we can go for a walk this evening," she added, thinking he should have something to look forward to.
