Who: Brian and Mya
Where: The diner
When: Shift change, 2PM

If there was anything better than getting off his shift after eight hours of way-too-early and slightly-overworked with the lack of Olivia, it was seeing Mya pulling into the parking lot at the end of said eight hours. Brian knew she was coming, of course, since she was taking over for him as manager-on-duty for a busy shift, but he still felt like a chance to see her was a chance to see her. He hadn't really done so much, since getting back, except in passing. Or that's what it felt like.

So he was grinning in her direction when she approached the door, drying his hands from a quick wash after his last order, apron already hung up in the kitchen by the back door.

Mya came into the diner, holding the door open for someone. "Welcome." She greeted, following them in and heading to the back. She removed her coat and dropped it on the back of her chair before going back to the kitchen. "Hey." She greeted Brian with a hug and kiss on the cheek.

"Hey, gorgeous," he greeted her back, and turned her casual embrace into a bear hug that lifted her off her feet, for just a minute. It felt good. He put her down again, grinned, and asked, "How've you been?"

Mya laughed. "Been ok. You?" She asked, catching her bearings once he set her down. "You seem happy."

"I can't be glad to see my best friend?" Brian prodded teasingly. "Actually been pretty shitty, but that's life, right? A few good days, a few bad ones. It's not raining anymore, so that's a big plus." God, he felt like he hadn't told her anything of what was going on lately... there was just so much.

And he had no idea how to even broach the Domino one. He'd pretty much decided to wait on that one until after tonight, after seeing how it went. That still left Manhattan, Olivia, faceless hunters, Torziel, and random phone numbers winding up on old grocery receipts.

"Not ranting is good, that means you've started to accept." She shook her head at herself, stop analyzing friends! "Well you're free for the day. To go out and un-shitty your life" Mya grinned at him.

Brian looked down at her and felt a moment of odd home-sickness, as if things'd changed somehow and he wasn't sure how or why. He needed to just talk with her, one of these days, instead of running into her between shifts. Fill her in on everything, see how she'd really been. "We've gotta do somethin', Mya, one of these days. Just... hang out, or something. Catch up."

"I know." She said softly, nodding in agreement. Mya could only imagine his laughter at her rainstorm realization. Probably would tell her that it was old news. "We'll have to make time. Maybe do something Monday..." God really? Was Monday going to be her next time to do anything? Sometimes she really did feel like a monk or something.

Monday, her bad-luck day. Oh, how ironic that would be. He grinned a little. "We'll have to make sure our work schedules give us a few hours where we're both off that's not the middle of the night. If Monday's the first time we can do that, after closing, so be it."

Mya nodded, and before she could reply they were interrupted by a small issue with one of the customers. "Guess that's my call." She leaned up and kissed his cheek again. "See ya later."

"We'll get something figured out. Bye, Mya. Don't work too hard." He grinned, gave her a quick one-armed hug, then limped around the counter and towards the door. He had...

... god, he had a lot of time to kill until tonight. Shit.
