Finalizing the deal

Who: Derek and Manhattan
When: 11:45am
Where: Landmark Inn

Manhattan turned the truck off the street and into the parking lot of the downtown hotel, and though she hadn't a clue as to the make of the car he'd be driving, the hunter was able to find him simply by giving a glance into each car she passed in her slow circle around the lot.

Pulling up into the spot next to him, Manhattan cut the engine and then waited in her vehicle as it was unclear to her whether or not he'd want to do the chatting in his car or her truck. And needless to say she hadn't been all that thrilled with having her talk with Aiden cut short by Derek's incoming call.

Only having just cut the engine on his car Derek was quite pleased with Manhattan's timing. She -had- always been efficient, probably why he liked employing her. Derek opened the door and stepped out of the car. He was dressed down, having been aware of the 'small town' nature of Marquette he thought it best not to show up in a suit and tie- he hated them anyhow. So, instead he wore a grey t-shirt and black sports coat with dark blue jeans.

As he walked to the back of the car he pressed the button on his car keys that popped the trunk and started to pull out his bags; two overnight bags, one computer bag and one shoulder bag. He could have pulled up front and made someone else do this for him of course, but his father had taught him a little self sufficiency- besides Derek never trusted low paid employees to take care of or not steal his belongings.

The emergence of Derek from his car seemed to have settled the little debate running through the hunter's head. Their little "meeting" was to take place in neither vehicle. Not that Manhattan was totally opposed to the option the man seemed to have chosen, she just had a preference of doing the talking end of business inside a vehicle on those rare occasions where she met face to face with Derek.

Getting out, Manhattan locked up the truck and then took the short walk over toward the other vehicle. "You know this could have been handle nice, and quite easily over the phone." And it would have allowed her to already be on her way out of town at the moment. Something that hadn't led to her being in all that pleasant of a mood at the moment, and it was clearly punctuated in the tone of her voice.

"And pass up the chance to see my favorite Hunter?" He asked, closing the trunk. "Never." He pulled the shoulder bag over his head and let his hand before pulling up the computer bag and draping it over the opposite shoulder. "Grab one of these will ya?" He said more than asked and he pulled the handle up one one of the overnight bags, and started toward the Inn.

That little question, well more of a statement coming from Derek, received a 'are you kidding me' look from the blonde, and if left Manhattan with half a mind to just leave the piece of luggage where it currently lay on the ground. "They do have baggage handlers for this, you know." And with the grumbling of those words Manhattan made the reluctant move to gather up that last piece of luggage and head for the Inn, though she didn't trail behind Derek, Manhattan made the rest of the walk to the building in a slow, casual stride beside the man who was paying her a hefty sum to bring back a little trophy from Alaska.

When they arrived at the door Derek held it open for Manhattan, having chosen to ignore her grumbled statement. "I take it all the plans are set, you know where you're going and have a reliable way to get there."

"This isn't the first time I've done this." Manhattan informed him with a slight irritation at his asking of that as she stepped through the held open door into the building. She wasn't an amateur, far from it as she'd been in the business for more then a good handful of years. The hunter then bypassed the lobby area to head over toward the check in desk.

Derek rolled his eyes slightly as he followed her. "I am well aware of that. However, you must remember while this is just a hunt for you, it's an investment for me." He reminded her as they reached the desk. "William Hartnell to check in please." Derek told the woman at the desk as he reached into his coat pocket for his wallet.

The woman did her thing in the computer and nodded. "Welcome Mr. Price- Mr. Hartnell." She corrected with a timid smile. "Your room is all ready for you-" She continued with her schpiel, after checking his ID.

There was no response from Manhattan, not that she didn't have anything to say in return. She did. Its just that the front desk with a desk clerk behind it wasn't exactly the right place for the continuous of their conversation. Manhattan held her say until they had left the check in desk and made in well away from the area and into the elevator.

Once Derek was handed the key to his room and directed in the way to go he nodded, and thanked the girl. He then started in that direction. "And you have everything you need?" He asked Manhattan once she'd fallen into set with him.

"Are you a man that generally falls to bad luck, Mister Hartnell?" Manhattan didn't think the guy knew the meaning of the word unlucky. Whatever he wished to acquire always seemed to fall into his hands, and this time was not going to prove to be any different. And it wasn't like this had been the first time Derek had called upon her services.

Stopping at the set of elevators, Manhattan set the bag she was carrying to the floor and then pressed the call button.

"I generally don't give bad luck a chance to trip me up." Derek told her with a smirk. "Never would have gotten where I am otherwise. Now, you didn't answer my question, do you have everything you need? Or is there something you still need to acquire to make this successful?"

Manhattan turned to face him with a clear look of irritability etched across her features. "I wouldn't be ready to leave town on this little expedition if I wasn't fully prepared for it." And with the opening of the elevator doors Manhattan snatched up the bag she had been carrying and stepped into the waiting elevator.

Derek smiled. "Good." He told her, stepping into the elevator, but holding the doors open with his hand. "Then it's square." He balanced the overnight bag at his side and reached into his coat pocket. "Then I can let you be on your way." He told her, pulling out an envelope and handing it to her. "Just don't forget to keep me updated with a status report- when you can."

"Always do." Manhattan said as a reach was made for the offered out envelope, which was the tucked away into the inner pocket of her leather jacket. "Enjoy your stay in town, Derek." And with that Manhattan stepped past him out of the elevator, the bag she had been carrying left in the corner of the people carrier, and out into the hallway. With this phase of their business completed Manhattan was free to finally leave town and get to the job she had been hired for.
