Brian... I had a bad day.
Who: Mya and Brian
When: Morning
Where: Via phone
Mya was sitting by the side of the road next to her car, she'd already called the mechanic and was now waiting for them to show. She thought she probably should call Brian to tell him about the window... if he hadn't noticed already, so she dialed him up.
Brian had, indeed, noticed the window. In fact, he was standing behind the diner glaring at, and painstakingly piecing back together the protective spells that rock had finally punched a hole through, when his cell phone rang. It took him until the third ring to notice it, and then the fourth to actually get it out of his pocket and into his hand. "Hello?"
"Hey," Mya said. "It's me, I thought I should warn you about the window..."
"Oh. Yeah. The window I'm staring at? Because some fucking vampire-- or kid, or whatever-- decided to throw something at it enough times to break my wards?" Yeah, Brian was a little pissed. Not at Mya, of course, but at the fucking asshole who had broken his spell, whether through persistence or disbelief in a rock that bounced off a window rather than through it. That would have to be some strong disbelief. Maybe he could do the ward better, this time. He had had that little breakthrough, after all....
"Yea, I boarded it up yesterday." She told him. "Umm... I don't know if I'm going to be able to get into work tonight..." She told him with a sigh. "It kinda depends."
"You-- what were you doing out on a Monday?" Brian asked, attempting to swallow his irritation, at least for the moment. He abandoned his will-work-- he couldn't focus on it, not knowing she'd been out-- to focus on Mya. "And why won't you be able to come in?"
"My... DVD player kind of... melted. Or something." She said, the wince she was making could be heard in her tone. "Then my car died." Mya added. "I'm waiting on the tow guy."
"And you just left your car there yesterday?" Brian turned to lean back against the diner wall, forgetting about the spells completely, now, in the light of Mya having had trouble-- trouble that he hadn't known about. "Is there more to this? What happened yesterday?" He knew about Mya and bad luck on Mondays, but surely she was okay. Oh, god, let her be okay.
"Yesterday was... not a good day." She said after a moment of silence. "I almost made it home before my car died... five blocks. I got into a little trouble, but made it home just fine. Though some of my neighbors are going to be very happy when they check their mail for the next couple of days."
"Just fine. Mya, nothing is just fine on a Monday for you." Brian stopped and took a moment to run a hand over his hair. He was freaking out over nothing, just like he had been for a goddamn week now. Take a breath, old man. Slow down. "What happened? You're okay, right?"
"I'm ok. I made it inside and stayed inside and under the covers for the rest of the night." She told him. "So don't stress... I just don't know if my car's going to be ready in time to get in... I'm not even sure what's wrong with it." Mya explained.
"That's fine. I can cover until sundown if I have to, I don't mind." He'd have to call Marlowe, let her know he'd be late, but he could do it. Maybe Domino, too. He scrubbed his face with a hand. "Promise me you'll stay in tonight, though, okay? I know it's not a Monday, just... promise me?" He felt like he was saying that a lot lately. But after everything-- he just felt he needed to.
"I promise." She said softly. "You too."
"I'll certainly try." Though witness how well it'd worked Sunday night. "D'you want to-- like-- get together? Sometime soon? We oughta talk. I've hardly seen you since last Monday.... Tomorrow, maybe?" Since today she had no car, and if he was working the whole day he probably wouldn't be in any shape to. Especially since given the diner hours, it'd have to be after dark. Given everything lately, he'd pretty much forgotten that tomorrow was his birthday.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Mya told him, her tone seemed to question why he would think otherwise. "So don't worry... I didn't forget- despite my bad day."
"Forget? Forget what-- oh." Despite her bad day, she hadn't forgotten-- but he had. "My birthday. Shit." He chuckled a little. "What timing, right? Right in the middle of vampire hell, I get to turn forty." It really was kind of funny, in a pathetic kind of way.
"Yea... you're not working tomorrow, but you are coming into the diner." She reminded him with a little laugh.
"When, then?" Maybe he could sleep in. If he could even sleep. Maybe Domino could stay over again, and he could-- he could seal off the bedroom so Marlowe couldn't hear anything. Except Domino was hurt, so no go, there. "What time you want me there?"
"By four." She told him. At least that was when the diner was closing. "You can come earlier if you want but you have to be there by four."
"By four. Can do, gorgeous." Even in the middle of vampire hell... she'd remembered his birthday. No matter how embarrassing it was, no matter what a rotten number he was finally turning, he still appreciated that. "Dunno what I'd do without you, Mya. Forget my own birthday," he chuckled. "That's what I'd do."
