8:30pm – Street, on the way home

It was a Monday, every sane thought in her head had told her to stay inside on Monday, why hadn’t she listened? Mya thought, trying to figure out how she’d gotten in this position. Her heart pounded as her feet pounded on the pavement of the sidewalks, running as fast as she could from the vampires behind her, they were quicker but she was only a block from home and they didn’t seem to like the quick blessings she was putting on the occasional mailbox she passed, so she might just make it. She risked a glance backward and saw the group of vamps slow as they approached one of the blessed boxes and take a careful long way around it before breaking back into speed. Six houses to go and she’d be at her own… she could make it.

8:30am – Mya’s home

The day hadn’t started in a foot-race; actually it had started quite like any Monday. Mya had been sitting up in bed trying not to have the need to cook anything or move farther than the bathroom. However the plan only worked as well as the day would let her, and it showed it’s ugly face for the first time when she got up to change DVD’s and the whole player just turned off. With a sigh Mya unplugged it then plugged it back in and tried to get it to work but it just sat there. After a bit more fidgeting it finally turned itself on and she could hear the DVD start to spin, but for some reason it wouldn’t play.

Deciding to take a step back and let it finish throwing a fit Mya went into the kitchen to get herself a glass of juice, only to remember she hadn’t had a chance to get to the store yet thanks to all the vampires keeping her in at night. Her milk had also gone sour so with another sigh she settled for a glass of water and went back into the bedroom to find her DVD player smoking.

12:00pm – Mya’s Diner

Seeing as she was out of the house already Mya decided to stop by the Diner. She knew she had no real reason to worry about it with all the wards and blessings it had, but she couldn’t help it. Just a quick nip by to make sure that it was ok and then she could get some groceries and get home before it got dark. As she got out of the car and walked up to the door she noted that the front of the diner looked nice. She unlocked the door and walked in and walked around the place, everything was still in place, it looked like things were ok. As she crossed into the kitchen she was struck by a foul smell- the grill’s trash had been forgotten to get picked up.

5:30pm - The side of the road

Mya got out of her car and slammed the door shut with all the frustration she could muster. The white plums of smoke coming from her engine were all the notification she needed to tell her that today could only get worse. She walked around the front and looked at it, maybe she could be lucky and it had just over heated. Mya did have AAA so she headed around to the door so she could call and pulled up on the handle. Nothing happened. Mya pulled up on the handle again. Nothing happened. Just that moment it hit her and she pressed her face up against the glass. Yup, there were her keys. “D*mn it!” She cursed kicking the side of her car ow...

8:45am – Mya’s home

After she finally managed to get the DVD player to stop smoking by unplugging it she opened her bedroom window and tried to air out the room a bit. *cough* Mya walked back over to her player and tried to get a better look at it. The tray seemed a bit warped and it was hot to the touch. Sticking a burnt finger in her mouth she slumped back on her bed and glared at the machine. She needed a new player now. F**k.

2:30pm – The grocery store

Mya entered the store she needed milk and juice at least, but she was getting a little hungry after all that hammering which meant that she’d probably buy food too- she was already thinking of things she could cook. Of course the shelves were practically bare, people who hadn’t fled the city were treating it as if it were the end of the world, Mya didn’t blame them. However there were still those who were in it to make a buck and too stubborn to leave so the store was open.

So Mya, with her cart of what food she could find that she could use wheeled into line and waited. She was bummed because they had no milk, but at least there had been apple juice that was something. When she got closer in line she noticed the sign that said ‘cash only’ and sighed because of course this would be the day she didn’t have any cash.

12:30pm – Mya’s Diner

After carefully pulling the bag out from the trash can, not wanting it to tear and actually managed to make it all the way to the back door with no tearing. There was however a nice trail of grease that followed her. When Mya arrived at the door she moved to open it, but was startled by the crunch of glass under her feet. A quick look around told her that the glass came from the window that had been smashed from the outside, and the object that had smashed it was the large rock that had landed against the wall by the door. “You must be kidding me!”

6:00pm – A gas station 2 miles from the side of the road

By the time Mya had reached a gas station with a working phone she was exhausted, she’d walked about 2 miles and failed four times at finding a phone that worked. She was fortunate that the gentleman behind the counter let her use his phone for free seeing as she’d lost all of her change in the broken pay phones she’d already tried and called AAA for help.

9:30am – Electronics store

So despite her efforts to stay inside on a Monday Mya realized that she’d go crazy if she didn’t have anything to keep her occupied (and the TV was only showing emergency new footage from the previous nights and shots of the streets during the day as if a natural disaster had blown through Marquette). She could only hope to find some store that was stubbornly staying open through the crisis and would sell her a DVD player.

Mya drove to three different places before coming to a place that seemed promising (it was pretty much the last place too), she pulled into a parking spot and started to walk up to the door. As she got closer she was suddenly hit from behind by someone who had plowed her down to get past her. Three men ran at the store each wielding something that could smash a window. Mya didn’t stick around to see either she turned and ran back to her car and got in a drove away as quick as she could. So much for getting a new DVD player.

3:15pm – The grocery store

Of everything that had happened that day Mya was blessed that the ATM was still working and wasn’t showing the ‘no cash’ or ‘closed’ sign so she stuck in her card and got some cash… and waited for her card back… and waited… and waited… and “No, oh god no! Nnonononono!” Mya futilely tried to stick her finger in the slot that claimed possession of her ATM and pressed the buttons in the hope of- well she didn’t know what she hoped for, she just wanted her card back. She walked around a little bit, but the bank was closed so there really was nothing that could be done.

11:00am - Lunch

Oh sweet release, Mya stopped by one of the few places open for lunch and got herself a cold sandwich. Peace… relief… sweet, sweet quiet. For a moment Monday forgot about Mya… for a moment.

6:45pm – The side of the road

Back at her car Mya waited for the AAA guys to come, the car had cooled down but the key thing was still an issue. After a while the tow truck pulled up, popped the lock and hooked up Mya’s car. She rode in the cab of the truck with ‘Jim’ the tow guy and thanked him for his help. He made small talk about the chaos and blamed it all on ‘gangs’ and ‘drugged out kids’ Mya listened and tried to help with his concerns about the events going while encouraging him to talk to his kids about what’s going on and maybe it would help ease all of their worries.

4:00pm – The grocery store parking lot

It took a half hour to get her card out of the machine, and she didn’t do anything it just suddenly came out. So Mya got back in line, paid for her groceries and wheeled the cart out to her car through the parking lot; she’d thankfully denied the assistance offered by one of the baggers- although in retrospect she probably shouldn’t have. As she pushed the wobbly wheeled cart across the paved black turf she was careful to avoid the cars that were looking for parking by staying close to the row of already parked cars. Three cars from her own she felt a sudden jolt from her cart as the wobbly wheel hit a pothole and tipped over, spilling it’s contents onto the pavement.

7:30pm – Auto shop

It didn’t take them long to figure out what was wrong with her car, there just wasn’t enough coolant in it. So they filled up her radiator and told her that she’s all set to go. She was lucky she pulled out extra cash from the ATM because she used the last of it to pay the mechanics. It was getting late and the sun was already gone, she’d have to hurry home.

1:00pm – Mya’s Diner

After getting the trash out of the diner and into the dumpster with only a little back-splash she mopped up the trail of trash grease-water. She then swept up the glass and grabbed a piece of wood from behind the dumpster that had been stashed there since the mini-remodel about a year ago when they removed the door between the counter and the kitchen. With a hammer and nails out of the toolbox that rested in the corner or her office she put up a cover over the window until they could replace it. She didn’t do a bad job, sure it wasn’t completely straight but at least it covered the hole - and she only hit her thumb twice.

8:00pm – Five blocks from home

She was almost home and she’d managed to make it without any ‘vampy’ encounters. As she turned the corner onto the far end of her block she heard a ‘phwomp’ sound and her car started to suddenly smoke again. She barely had enough momentum to pull off to the side of the road. Mya sat there for a long moment, a very long moment. Her head found the steering wheel and she started to cry a little, why did she ever leave the house. Mya sat there for near twenty minutes before she started to gather her things for the walk home. She didn’t cry hard, but the little cry she had made her feel better about the whole thing. She opened her door of her car and got out, pulling her purse and popping the trunk so she could grab her groceries.

She’d gotten the armload gathered and closed the trunk when she heard the snickering. “Little woman out alone… poor girl. I bet she wanted to play.”

4:30pm – Diner

Mya was so hungry when she got done grocery shopping that she decided to swing by a drive through for food. She ordered a salad and when she pulled up to the window to get it the server missed and her food fell into a puddle at her door. Ten minutes later the manager walked up to her parked car and gave her a replacement.

8:35pm – Mya’s home

Cutting across her lawn Mya raced up to the door and fumbled with the keys in her pocket for a moment as she pulled them out and managed to get them into the door and opened it. Shooting a look behind her the vampires had hit her lawn, but she had just enough of a head start and slammed the door before they got any closer. Mya was out of break and buckled over as she tried to catch it. She could hear curses in her direction as the vampires were forced to give up their prey. She leaned back against the door and slid to the floor. That was not fun.

6am – Mya’s home

The lump under the blankets stirred and parted to reveal a blinding ray of sun from the open window blinds. Mya inched down the comforter until her head was visible enough to see the clock. It was Monday… that meant staying in bed and watching movies. No cooking, no cleaning, no driving, no cutting, no hot foods, no glass dishes nothing that could tempt the evil Monday gods; just stay in bed and watch movies.
